testing harness

I went to test my harness on my knock sensor to see if its working....what side of the harness to i check for resistance? do i check the harness going into the main wire harness or the one that goes to the KS? also.. if I unplugged my knock sensor would it run like the car is cold?

edit: would unplugging the knock sensor harness make the engine run as if the knock sensor is good? or could you get a new knock sensor, and just plug it into the harness and not necesarily put the sensor in the motor....just lay it somewhere and plug it in? would that work?

To simulate a good knock sensor, place a 470kOhm resistor across the 2 prongs of the harness (ECU side). The ECU side is the side that is NOT coming from the valley of the engine. DON'T drive your car around for an extended period of time like this, use only to help diagnose a bad knock sensor.

where can I get this 470k ohm resitor at? im asuming at any schucks o radio shack, what does it look like and how exactly do i place it across the 2 prongs? maybe if I saw a picture of one Id understand

should I use the 1/4watt 470k ohm resistor or the 1/2watt one? and how do you attach them to the terminals?
