i don't think its terribly ugly but its just not what the car was ment to have done to it. also don't convertables have a reenforced frame or something like that do to the fact that they don't have the roof to help brace the car, i'm pretty sure i heard that somewhere, maybe i'm wrong.

Yes, most convertibles have some form of chassis bracing underneath. Some even have structural 'hoop' at the b-pillar (Jag, PT, Cutlass, Saleen Stang).
I was going to try to leave that hoop in, but it's Paint I was using and I'm not exactly proficient with it.
That's actually my old silver Max. I'm currently taking the engine and trans out and was considering actually cutting the roof off - just for kicks - b4 I sent it to the wreckers. I figure, why not? I mean....., I'm curious to see how it would actually look and I may as well f around with it while I own it?

You want the peice in front of the brace..... AND behind the brace removable??
Targa is cool, but it's not as adventurous and seems old school to me (I could be wrong tho - just my opinion?).
I have three ways I can go depending on how nice I am to the guy who owns the shop where the car currently sits in peices... I can just take it to the wreckers as is. I can cut the top clear off it and goof around with it - just for kicks. Or I can leave the top on, cut the entire floor out and goof around with a RWD, V8 conversion. Personally, as much as I'd love to see the top off, I'm leaning towards the RWD, V8 conversion - a hack job - nothing show worthy by any means, but just to see what it would take and if it can be done.
All depends on the storage/work space tho and I have no control over that aspect.

Speaking of changing things around did you ever finish the coilovers.

Our frame isn't built for the power to come form the rear. Less reinforncement = bending chasis.

Coilovers? Huh??

Ya, I know OUR frame isn't - but I didn't say I would use our frame, did I. I said I'd cut the entire floor out - frame and all - then put another chassis under the body and then build the floor back up from scratch. Pro-Streeters and Rodders and Low-Riders have done this for years. It's not a new concept and in theory it's relatively simple. I know, I know....., it won't be as easy when I have to actually do it, but this is just to goof around with - I screw up and the car heads to the wreckers anyway - so no loss either way? The car is literally just a toy now.

Doesn't seem like most people like the chop. I did another version with a low(er) windsheild and I think it looks worse - makes the car look even longer and more disproportionate.

kind of....the fronts are structurally perfect, but the springs are too stiff for the struts i used...i switched to koni/eibach as i didnt want to deal with the headache, plus its alot more cost effective. to make the coilovers perfect, i'd need new front struts, all new springs and new rear struts. estimated about $600 more than i've already spent, and alot more time/testing. not worth it, i'll save everything for a rainy day though.

you need to reposition the door jam a bit more towards the rear to get the correct 2 door convertible proportions.

i would go with the RWD V8 ricerod project myself....

I know what you mean about the door jam, but unfortunately moving it back (even just a few inches) would require an insane amount of work. All the door lock mechanisms would need to be lengthened, the glass would have to be enlarged (custom cut too).
Because this would just be a screw-around, occupy my time thing, I think I'm actually leaning towards the RWD, V8 idea - the convertible idea just looks funny. Besides........, if the RWD, V8 idea actually works (which I highly doubt btw), then I could always make it a convertible as well? Will be cool just to try it I think - even if I pooch it and end up scraping it in the end.
Gotta look up some wheelbase and track width numbers now....

I agree with most others here - it's just not right (like an '80s Chrylser Le Baron crossed with a Mercedes).
How about keeping the rear doors, but opening in suicide style - will help with proportions & give it that '60s 4 door convertible look. Much less work than going the whole V8 RWD route...
Hey, but nice idea!

Suicide doors? Hmmmm......... Good idea!
I re-did the interior - think the front seat proportions are a little better now - and I also cut down the windsheild. I don't like it that much, but it's interesting to see what it would look like...
