In 1990 they did?? How much do their engines cost? Just like finding a 350z motor.

Anyway, I don't think the Q45 motor put out over 300hp. It's more like 280hp.

i wonder if the bimmer 4.4 has two power spikes like Q engine does... feels awesome in the Q when it puts you in the seat twice... i couldn't imagine that feeling in a car that is 1000 lbs less, has a 5 speed tranny with parts that weigh less on the crank, and a much better rear diff.

350Z tranny has been having some issues for people. hard shifting seems to be a common problem after a while on a lot of them. also, gearing wise it seems the TTZ 5-speed's gearing matches better for the Q engine. i've not looked into that myself too much but other Q guys are saying that.

hp and torque rating on the Q engine was based on the japanese version that did not have the vvt so they didn't go over the 280 hp limitation set by the "gentleman's agreement" or something like that. the US engines got the vvt and the Q guys believe that bumped the bhp up in the 300-305 area and torque a bit higher than that. when they got the Q's on the dyno it seemed to prove that even more by the numbers they were getting but since its very hard to find out how much drivetrain loss there truly is no one knows for absolute sure.

I was working on a friends Supara today 88 GTE
quick OT question, what can cause an oil leak between the oil line to the turbo and the CPS, but it isnt the valve cover?

I are a pro at removing the intake tubing

Are you certain it's not the valvo cover? If he hasn't retrofitted bolts in place of the screws then it's probably still leaking.

Also, there's an O-Ring on the CPS that can leak a good amount. Mine was leaking from there

Pretty sure he hasn't I saw screws on the valve cover. That will suck, he just replaced the gasket I believe

ok, this could be it too, we had the CPS out abit to adjust the timing, I just didn't realize how far until I pushed it in abit.

I believe earlier VH45DE's had closer to 300hp due to NVCS I think the later VH45 had 280 due to no NVCS because of tighter emissions. dont quote me on that but I believe I read that before. Heres a site I found awhile back that has a 240z with the VH swapped in twin turboed and its VERY nicely done. 240z VH45DETT

and god bless america! i have two friends from school who both own '88 supras. one is turbo, one is NA, but they both kick it pretty good. but theyre both cool with my maxima too. It is true what automart said, sometimes after school, we just take my maxima and go for lunch, because we have so much space, we look damn sexy to the GSR owning females when we are stopped at a light, and after couple hours of driving, no one from the backseat had to stretch their neck back to vertical position.

Im personally not all about perfomance, if i wanted performance, id get a fast car. Maximas are speed demons when theyre needed to be, but mostly, were just cruizers in style. and did i mention we look damn sexy? those 'nits from supra forums arent really talking straight here. theyre basically comparing leopards which were created to be fast to tigers, which werent created to be fast but they look damn sexy.

id like to see them compare their soysauce to a stock chrysler 300 . that monster will kick em in the head. If theyre doing the comparing, let them compare their cars to cars that were created to be fast as well, like skyline, or a 300zx, or mitsubishis for that matter. My point is, we shouldnt care what they think about our cars. We all know that Nissans takes Yodas to school. its not like were comparing our 300zx to their damn camrys :
