Cruise Problem

Cruise Problem
Hi, I have a '92 SE Maxima with one problem: When I try to use the Cruise mode, I turn on it by pressing the button on the dash, but when I press the Set/Coast button the Cruise light on the dash (left side of the motor temp) starts to blink and not latches the speed, I have to turn off the entire Cruise (by pressing the Cruise Control switch) to turn off the blinking light. Any idea?? Thanks

Okay, according to the Chiltons manual, either the steering wheel switch or control unit is faulty.
However, before you replace those components, when you're out driving, turn on the cruise control main switch & then press the set/coast button. When the cruise lamp starts blinking, depress the brake pedal and if it continues to blink, adjust the cancel switch on the brake pedal.

if you're a 5-speed, check the brake and clutch buttons that cancel the cruise control. If (when the clutch pedal is not depressed) the pedal is not pushing the button in fully, then that's probably the problem. Adjust it so the pedal pushes it in fully when it isn't depressed. Mine did the same thing and that was the problem.
Hope that wasn't too confusing.

Check craig's site and try the always ready cruise how to, to check and see if the Set/Coast button will work. if it works then, that means the button on your dash is faulty.

What my issue turned out to be was a little control module under the the hood. Here's what it looks like:

Swapped it out with a junkyard piece, and cruise ran like a top for a looong while - until recently. I think that module went belly-up again, so I'm in the process of swapping it out again.

I did the same thing as Nupe. Well, my brother did maybe three months before I bought the car from him. The funny thing is, my brother never disconnected the battery. The cruise never worked for him. When I got the car, I worked on the stereo and disconnected the battery and the cruise worked fine.
