oil question

I am about to have my first oil change in my maxima (since i got it month or so ago). The question is: What is the best oil brand and weight for our maximas, and filter? I know this may sound like a stupid question, but I know with other cars the brand and weight can affect the performance of a car.

Dino = castrol GTX...5w-30 is recommended. 10w-30 is ok.
syn = mobil1...5w-30

filter....factory/mobil1 filter works well.

My uncle said he would do the oil change for $10 if I bought the stuff. So I knew to buy a filter and about 4 quarts of oil (most cars take 3, but get 4 to be on safe side). So, I didn't know what brand etc to get.

Syn blends are not worth the $. If anyone read the Fluids/Lubricants sections, it's all there.

i'm not trying to be cheap. Thats why i posted on here asking which one would be best. My uncle is a mechanic at a local garage, and to help me out will do it at his home for me.

I would say have him teach you to change your oil, it takes all of 10 min and you can save 10 bucks.

In the stickies section are some advice and info on what to use, but here's some anyway...

Castrol GTX and Pennzoil are a couple good, common brands that make a quality non-synthetic (conventional) 5W30 or 10W30 oil. If you want to go synthetic you can go longer in between changes, but you are supposed to monitor it and people differ in opinion about how much longer you should run it if you don't watch it, so a conventional oil might be best for simplicity's sake as long as you do it on a regular basis as scheduled.

Don't bother with synthetic blends.

Don't use Fram or generic/no name filters (because they are often Frams rebranded). Wix, NAPA, Mobil 1, Nissan, Baldwin, and Purolator filters (in no particular order) are all better - take your pick and drive happy.
