It's Back!

after 18 months(give or take), riddled with stupid problems, solutions that lead to more problems and lots of experimentation that lead no where...its finally drivable. i drove it for a solid 4 hours today and the only complaint i have is the konis set all the way stiff make it ride like sh*t(and make everything in my trunk rattle around), also my brake pedal is very light but it stops better than i remember.
its still not finished but i can drive it to work and drive more like the young guy i am than a grandma who is afraid of speeds over 40mph.

next mods: install SAFC, stageII, III subframe connectors, matt's lower tie bar and rear links, install ground kit, install capacitors(for stereo), new sub enclosure, clean it out, wash and wax.

if you dont know what i'm talking about, i'll consider explaining later

congratulations on getting your max back on the road. I had mine off the road for several months and I know it can be depressing.

Hopefully, it will give you many years of trouble free service...

Konis set at full stiff are ****. My brother in law has them like that and it is painful to ride in. He is starting to get rattles and wearing things out. Set those suckers are half, that is plenty. Glad to hear you got it back on the road, hows the power feel?

yep, eibachs and konis now...it would cost me alot more to get the coilovers right and i'd rather drive the car than have it sit for another few months.

yeh, i absolutely hate the ride now, when i get a chance i'm going to pull it apart one last time before i order the rear links/front lower tie bar from matt and set the konis to half...half front and rear is a good balance? or should i be 50%F/75%R? i dont mind a stiff ride but i do need some semblence of ride quality.

the power is incredible, alot better than i remember (while off the road i ported/polished the upper intake manifold/inlet/throttle body and added spacers between the upper and lower IM and throttle body and upper IM.
last night when i was driving it, the idle would drop to about 500, flutter for a second and go back up to 750, this happened every time i pushed in the clutch for a stop sign/red light/etc...so i bumped the idle up, now it sits just below 1000rpm, never drops below 800 and i couldnt be happier. low end power is much more than i ever expected, i see no reason to shift above 4000rpm even in spirited driving. i did tach out first, second and third and the top end seems to be lacking in a big way but i'm not going to even bother with it for now as its probably just a defective butt-dyno. EGT is a bit higher than what i remember (1200* cruising 55mph in 5th, as opposed to the 900-1000* earlier this year when i drove it.) idle EGT is rock solid at 800, warm up EGT is 600, which is funny because before the idle was 600, warmup was 450ish, i wonder what changed? all i really did for motor work was the intake manifold/TB stuff and an oxygen sensor.
overall i'm ecstatic to just be driving it again but there is still alot of work to be done. like i said i need to still install the stageII and III subframe connectors along with a ground wire kit, re ground my battery as it hesitates to start like its got a dead battery (currently running an odyssey PC680, but had the same issues with my optima red top). i might install my SAFC tonight, and i'm heading to the dyno a week from tomorrow. once the suspension is complete i'm going to start construction on turbo manifolds, but that is a whole can of worms i'll open in a few months.

get a Canon PowerShot A series camera, best bang for the buck, you can even take videos (with sound) of your slow *** racing and such.
