Trunk Opens with Heavy Bass

Hey guys, i was just wondering if there was any way to tighten up my trunk latch? When i put in a bass heavy song, sure enough it pops open. I only have 1 12" in sealed box! Anyone else have this problem? Its really annoying...

turn the bass down?

there probably is a way...go take a look at it and see what you come up with. Shouldnt take more than a screwdriver if it is possible.

Well plenty of other max owners have a lot more bass than you did (not crunching ) and there trunks don't pop open...you may have a faulty switch or for some reason it's not closing, do what the other guy said and check out your latch

PS: sell those alpines yet?

are you serious? your latch must not be working that well. i got enough bass to make my dash rattle and my trunk still stays closed. check your latch

No DMad8724, haven't sold the alpines . It makes me sad seeing a good set of speakers sit there, he he.

But yeah, you can even pull up on the trunk it will not come open, even if you like mess with it. SO i'll have to check out the latch.

internetautomar: Where would you recomend venting the trunk? The back speaker dash? Wouldn't that ruin some of my sound quality since the trunk acts as its own box? Thanks for all the input guys!!!

i honestly cannot picture a trunk popping open due to bass pressure, and not when you're trying to pull on it (with one 12 at least). in any case, you can vent through the trunk by the rear armrest. just take out that plastic thingy behind the seat and fold down that carboard piece (Sorry for lack of proper terms heh)

pic of my old setup.

i have 2 12s ported in boxes that take up the whole trunk and 2400 watts rms and never had the trunk pop open. but i also have a 8x30" hole in the rear deck and my arm rest hole. i dont think it has to do with bass other then maybe bass tigering your trunk pop switch. their are 2 screws on the trunk lid latch (middle of the trunk not on the trunk lid) that allow you to adjust how the level of how high the trunk is when it is closed, i have tightened mine down just to hold in more bass because it was rattling and i heard air escaping. if you think preasure is the issue you may want to fold down the arm rest hole and take out the cardboard piece that is there so you can get air flow from the trunk,

i had five 12's and almost 1900rms of bass and my trunk never opened. it just rattled and flexed like crazy and kept on unscrewing my maxima light from the car. also if you all were wondering i had a dual & triple 12 box pointing up and a memphis 1000d and a concept 800d. It was loud as all outdoors, but it caused me too many headaches. It was nice though.

I smell The pressure would vent through the rear deck and the seats before it would blow the trunk open. More that likey your trunk latch is wore slam out or needs to be ajusted

Yeah, i new that i "didn't have too much bass", cuz i know some of you guys have some sick setups. I'll look at the latch and see whats up. It only happens when i have a rap song it, which i rarely listen to rap anyways. BUt i thought i'd see what you guys had to say. THnx for the input...

Out of curiousity what kind of sub and amp do you have? Can you make a video of this happening that'd be funny. For this Maxima light becoming unscrewed which light is this the tailights? or another one? I just got some subs in and don't want to be driving and my lights fall out

it was the middle tail light with maxima written on it.it wasn't my permanent setup. it was just that my friend had it in a garage and i asked him could i bang on it for a couplke of days which turned into weeks. but anyway after hard quaking i would get out the car to go somewhere and walk around the trunk area and only the two nuts on the side where the lock is would be holding it on. that means i had been ridin the town with the tail light halfway off the car. Other than that the whole car flexed like crazy.the sides of the car like where the gas cap is would push in and out very far. the roof, thats a whole different story. that may have caused my sunroof to also leak before i shimmied it up. It was crazy loud for a ghetto system.
