How to test fuel injector

I tried to get the ohms measuremts from a fuel injection rail today but could not do it right I guess. turned the **** on the unit to ohms put it to 2000 like the book says, conect leads to fuel injector and I get crazy numbers that go up and down, then I get 1 on the screen again. I am using a digital multimeter. does this mean injector is bad, this is an injector that is not attached to a car that I tested. When I tried to test the injectors on the car I got the same reading. So either every thung I tested is shot or I dont know what Im doing. Can someone explain to me breifly if Im doing it right.
this is the ohm meter I am using is it able to do the job Im lokking to do?

it should be set to 200 (approx 7 o'clock) you just measure by touching one probe to each prong onthe connector.

I did that and all I got was the single digit of one. Does that mean the injector is dead.
I know the multimeter is working because I tested a AA battery.

you have to kinda play around with it, and some times apply a LITTLE pressure. what I did was stuck the tip of the multimeter to the root of the injector connector, then i pulled it back a little creating a small amount of pressure. ...
try to undertsand that

I am sure that you did, but are you sure that you had the leads installed in the right receptacles? Looking at meter, you should have the black--common--lead in the center and the read lead in the right. The one that reads "VohmmA"

do what aminus21 said.
i had to change the injectors on a buddies vg last weekend. my multimeter was going screwy to because of corrosion on the injector connectors. if you scratch the tips of the connectors a little bit you'll be able to get a steadier reading.
