Help! distributer

Hey guys, I need your help.

My car died out on me today at a stop sign, before it died out, it was idling rough, around the 500 range.

So we took off my cap to my distributer, and found out that it wasn't spinning. What is it, the cam belt or the distributer/rotor?... I'm not sure!

Help, and thanks in advanced.

Since I stalled at idle, do you think it messed up my valves and stuff?

my tech is going to be helping me tomorrow.

How did you find out the distributor was not turning?

My tech told me to unbolt the distributor cap and crank it and see if the distributor rotor turns, so I tried that, and it didn't move what so ever. They also said they noticed no compression noises.

Oh, and how long is the timing belt supposed to take?

Well if your really really lucky, your valves landed in the closed position when the belt broke. But if your luck is like most peoples they are smashed. How long it takes all depends on your experience.

Well if they were in an open position, when I crank the car, wouldn't I hear a rattling/clanking sound?

Not really, your starter is just loud enough to mufful the sound.

Alright, I got a new timing belt, and I got it all taken out and all that fun stuff, just to see my timing belt is only cracked and loose, not torn in half. How tight is it supposed to be from 1 cam to another? I hope it gets fixed, I am half way on my timing belt.

ANybody?
