Car audio experts, a question.....

Still doing some tweaking on my new car audio system and need some thoughts from anyone willing to give them! I have an Eclipse deck and Boston mid through high freq. drivers installed driven off of an Orion Extreme 500.4 amp. I'm looking into subs and have decided to explore in greater detail getting a solid sub to fit into the Bose sub location which is unused in my car. I have a couple of questions. # 1 is can you get anything larger than an 8" sub in there without major mods to the rear deck area? Secondly I'm planning to run the sub off of an Orion 2 channel amp bridged into the sub. Both Orion amps have onboard crossovers so I won't need a separate electric one. The question now becomes distribution block or no distribution block. I'm inclined to just run a 1 Farad cap and use it as a distribution block, I'm just not sure if that might be problematic in any way. Any thoughts....Thanks in advance!

make sure that the sub you are going to get is are free air speakers because you are mounting them on the bose location. you might be able to mount a bigger speaker but if you are going 8" sub then go with the box in the trunk and leave the hole in the rear deck so its like a port to your trunk. its covered anyways by the stock bose screen.

Do a search on me in the audio secton. Ive spoken about subs in the bose section alot. Get a fused D block. Lets pray the amps don't go anytime soon.

Actually I do not think I want a free air sub; I'm just not convinced I'll get the low freq. extension I'm looking for with a free air so I'm looking to get a good high excursion 8" or 10" if possible to cram into the Bose opening and build a sealed enclosure around the magnet/motor structure under the rear deck. If I can't find a good enough 8" to give me what I want then I'll probably just get a 1 cu. ft. sealed box for a Boston Pro 10 or 12" sub in the left rear corner of the trunk; but I'm very hopeful that I'll be able to pull this off using the stock Bose location. By the way, I had the stock non-Bose system in my Max stock so I don't have the Bose screen to my knowledge. Thanks for the help!

I think you're right, I'll just get a 1 input 2 output D block to be safe and smart. Thanks!

If u want to put in a larger sub, all u gotta do is grab a utility knife and make the opening bigger. The distribution cap is not necessary, but it makes the job slightly easier and makes it look cleaner too. BTW - if yor system is going to be 500 watts or less, then u only need a .5 farad capacitor, otherwise yor gonna need the 1 farad. (rockford fosgate has real kool looking ones )

I'm not attempting to put an 8" sub on the deck like srbarnes... (I didn't have the bose system... was there an 8" hole in the deck!!?)
But I am interested in creating sub-deck enclosures around my IK 6 3/4's - Has anyone tried this? The speakers are technically free-air, but would benefit from enclosures, I'm also thinking of getting 6 3/4 subs for the deck - those would not be free-air.

I'm afraid the metal bars that swing back and forth when you open the trunk lid might hit the enclosures.

Is there perhaps a manufacturer who has already taken on this task?

Rear deck enclosures are done pretty often...Best thing to do is to start from scratch lose all the factory and start with a new frame and go from there. As far as the bars for the trunk lid go, chop um out and use acuaters.
