I know you folks are getting tired of hearing about my VTC problems and I hope this is the last time. Like I said before, I have the Nissan technical service buletin about these @$#%^ things. Trouble is, I only aquired it after I had taken apart my sprockets and misaligned the inner gear(at the time I couldn't see how it could make a difference and am still not sure). Anyway my car rattles like a diesel now.

Now my question: I read that someone or ones had disable their variable valve timing. I need to know-----

1. How. simply weld the thing together so it doesn't
shift at all, Block the oil going to them, replace the
VTC sprockets with regular one like are on the exaust
cam, or a combination of one two or all of these?

2. How much difference did it make in performance?
Sometimes mine takes off like a bullet, other times it
will barely get going.

3. Does anyone want to buy a Maxima that sounds like a
Freightliner? Just kidding.

For anyone who hasn't followed my struggle to this point. I decide to repair these things because I was already disassembling the engine to replace a burned valve(had a hole the size of a toothpick in it). Only after I rebuilt the "front" sprocket I found that the chain tensioner on the "rear" head was destroyed. This was probably the original source of my noise.

Any help could get you remembered fondly in my last will and testament.

Did you get a chance to read my posts?

I was pretty clear about marking EVERYTHING including the VTC assy if you decided to rebuild it. Rebuilds are a 50/50 thing anyway IMHO. There are a few guys who worked w/ a Nissan tech and "disabled" the VTCs to quiet the noise. Not much loss of power according to them. Did you also clean all the oil gallies while you were in there? Very important.

I did clean the gallies. After driving it the last time and listening to the engine closely, I am not sure that the cam chain tension is ok on the rear. Sounds almost like the chain is striking the valve cover. It'll be some time before I go back into it(too much work), so I will find out whenever I get back to it.
