5 speed conversion question (need your 2 cents input)

Hey I have a 92 gxe maxima (vg) Auto i want to do a 5 speed conversion on. I found a 93 maxima se (ve) with all the parts i need. the car has a blown motor, but the tranny, clutch, and everything is perfect.

how much will labor normaly cost to get a conversion done?

how long will it take to do normaly?

also will is there anything i need to take note of or do or anything?

all input, and feedback is welcomed. Pleese give me your 2 cents worth.

if you are going to pay someone else to do it, then I recommend buying a car that already has one and runs.
or just fix the motor on the 93 which will then give you 190hp vs 160 that you have.
BTW book time on just swapping the trans normally is 8.9 hours and that doesn't include swapping the spindles (you'll have to do that too) swapping in the clutch hydraulics, the pedal and axles. not too mention getting the car realigned.
not worth it to pay someone else IMHO

I agree with internetautomar. Yeah your best bet is to replace the VE engine and go from there.

do it yourself or just buy a car that's already a 5spd.

then there u go my friend. just swap out everything from ur GXE to the SE and replace/rebuild VE motor and u'll have a VE 5-speed good as new. damn if i get my hands on a VE for that much i would just fix the damn motor and i'll have lots of fun. other than that if ur planning to do the 5-speed swap and have to pay for someone to do it for u ain't worth the trouble like what was mentioned here before by the rest of the guys. just fix the VE and u'll be fine.

If I were in your shoes, I would sell the GXE, then use the money to buy a JDM motor and have it installed, if you aren't up to doing the work yourself. Go ahead and look in the stickies and read about the JDM swap instructions. Even if you have a mechanic do it, I think you would still have a running, driving VE 5-speed with a much newer motor for less than $3k.

you cant even use the 5 speed tranny from the 93 se anyways since you have a 92 gxe you have a vg engine 2 different trannys. use all your gxe interior in the 93 se and then get your self another ve engine and you would have one hell of a car........

why say something cant be done when you dont know? It can and has been done. True they are different transmissions but they have the same bellhousing bolt pattern. You just have to use the hubs off of the VE you get the transmission from...probably some other stuff (havent researched it because I dont need to do it) but I know for a fact it will work.
