Oil Pan Bent In

I'm finally going to do something about my oil pan. The person who owned the car before me, lifted it wrong on the oil pan, so I want to bend it out. The only way I know of taking out the oil pan is to remove my exhaust. How often do the bolts on the exhaust break off in the block? Do I even need to take off my headers to remove my oil pan? How would I go about removing it?

Thanks.

I could, but then I would have to take the exhaust off on that. The closest one I know of around my house is 45mins away. I guess I could do a trip up there to check it out. I havent been to one yet.

it takes some time and can get kind of dirty good luck though.

Also make sure you don't make the same mistake when lifting the engine by the bellhousing if you don't have a hoist.

you don't have to take the whole exhaust off just detach the y-pipe. remove crossmember, alternator, gussets, etc.

yup.. sorta what they said..

support the engine using a block of wood under the crank pulley, then pull the Y pipe, crossmember, and oil pan off. I'm not sure if you have to remove the alternator, but I'm going to guess you don't..

be sure to drain the oil first before pulling the pan!

Draining oil would be a good idea

1. Remove splash pan
2. Oil
3. Remove Y-pipe (might take a long time ... really long time)
4. Remove bellhousing cover
5. Secure engine and tranny with a jack or a piece of wood - make sure that it is
6. Unbolt engine mountsfrom crossmember
7. Remove front crossmember from the way
8. Remove alternator
9. And finally unbolt oil pan
10. Have a beer or two
11. Remove old gasket with a scraper, clean it with WD40 or whatever (NOT with BEER)
12. Do whatever you need with your old oil pan
13. Apply new seal and install pan within 4-5 min (don't forget to buy a gasket kit: 2 rubber pieces and liquid sealant).
14. Install everything backwards (BTW, might be a good idea to install a new Y-pipe gasket)

Good luck!

PS: I've done this job recently ... not what I'd like to do again ...
