Radio fun...

Hey guys, got another quick question for ya. My radio doesn't work (kind of a sudden thing) in that no sound comes out. I was wondering what to check between it and the antenna to see if thats the issue.

IT VERY WELL MAY NOT BE because when my State Farm gave me a rebuilt bose receiver (mine was stolen) the thing was a piece. The CD player didn't work, the radio stopped later on, and now the cassette player won't recognize and accept cassettes when i put em in. However, the speakers so still work, because ever once i na while i can get a tape to go in for about 3 minutes and it sounds great.

Anyway, another question here. I am getting new speakers and a new headunit -- Alpine cda-9835 -- and, that receiver is about half the size the old Bose reciever. So is there anywhere i can find those fold out cup holders, or just a 'cave' (ya konw, like the newer altimas have -- just a deep place to put glasses or a cell phone in your dash) that would fit underneath the new reciver?

I know thats a long annoying question but let me know if ya got to the end without quiting and have got something for me. Thanks a lot!
Grace and peace
Kev

check ebay for ford cupholders, or if you want to spend 50-80 bucks you might get lucky and find a jdm one.

ps minor fabrication is required for for cupholders and if you have a cup in it will block you head unit.

PS that first one -- the 'you're amazing?' part wasn't actually a question but a statement. Why i just didn't edit it...i do not know. Thanks.

I have a nice little drawer under my HU that comes stock in some models. Probably the ones that have a single DIN tape deck. A lot nicer looking than the cubby hole thing you are thinking about. I don't like cupholders that close to my HU, so I am not that big of a fan of the Saab/Taurus ones that some guys have.

Here is what mine looks like:

You push the center and it slides out. It has crappy cupholder things in it (the only beverage that would fit is a can of pop or a small/kid size drink), but I have never used them. I don't want pop or coffee or anything spilling onto my HU if I have to slam on the brakes.

I keep the remote for my HU, a fuse puller and a 10mm wrench in it.

Start asking guys with parts cars. You could call a dealership and ask them for a part number, but I imagine they would want more than most of us want to pay for one.

Yeah, the dealer is a rip-off on most stuff like that. One time the dealer told me it would cost $215 for the radio/heater control bezel. I just bought one on e-bay for $10.

I think you could make a nice filler panel with some dark or tinted plexi and some back-strap.

Cave, eh. Is that the push tray thingy, or just a cave?
