What is wrong with my car?

I just bought a 91 Automatic Nissan Maxima about 3 weeks ago from a friend and it seemed to be running just great. I got it inspected and everything passed but the mechanic told me that within a few months I would need to replace the front struts. Anyway I was driving last night and turned a corner and my car made an odd grunting noise and started bouncing a bit, so I turned my car off because I thought it might be something to do with one of my tires but got out and it seemed fine. Anyway I started my car up again and tried to put it in drive and it started bouncing a bit again and when you tried to drive, it just started reving my engine and rolling backwards and wouldn't go into gear. Would there be any way it could be something other than the transmission like the front struts. I just don't see how turning a corner could ruin the transmission when it didn't seem to be slipping in the first place. Please let me know if you have any idea what could be wrong with it. Thank you

Here's some things I would RE-check.....

-Clutch(if it's stick)

-CV joints

-Wheel bearings

-Axles

-the tranny clutchs in the tranny(if it's auto)

Just my .02

Alright, I will get it checked! Hopefully that is cheaper than a new transmission which I was thinking it might be. Thanks for all of your help!
