Idle Air Control Valve

If that's what it's called (bad memory...). Has anyone ever NOT used a gasket - but only used the gasket making goo from a tube?? My car is idling rough and I'd like to take mine apart to clean it, but I'd have to order the gasket from the dealer (already asked around) and I don't want to wait.
Will the goo alone work? (VG btw)

anything else i would say ok..but the gasket is going on a very thin flange..so i don't know how well that's going to work...BUT...if you can take the valve out w/o disturbing the air cut piece then you don't need a gasket. there's a rubber O-ring on the idle air valve so you don't have to replace that.

Thanks. I'll give it a try and see what happens I guess? This terrible idle/stalling is just getting to me now... I just finished a tranny swap, new clutch 2 weekends ago and a new powersteering pump & hose and all belts last weekend - so to have it idle like this is just pissing me off now.

The Idle circ is just one of the many things ruining idle: ign wirings, sensor connectors, throttle carbon accumulation etc. My problem was also TPS.

The Idle stepper motor has (as danny said) rubber gasket. The water temp regulated air valve has a paper gasket, which in my case came out nice and easy. There is no interaction between these parts, so gasket thickness is not important, they have to bee only well sealed. So no paper necessary.

I Added gum film before installation, and been since cleaning working fine. Note: As I cleaned the system, the water temp regulated air valve was open about 15degrees at +20C (about +70F) and cool engine. Dunno if this is what it should be, but idle is working nice. What I mean by this, that the small thermo actuator -work cylinder- for this valve might also be broken as any device... Surely one can test the valve by clamping the tubes, taking it off and boiling the assy in a kettle and verifying its closing/opening.
