Ignition key light question

Is the little lighted ring around the ignion key hole supposed to on all the time? Everything else works fine so I don't know if this is right or not

it's only supposed to be on when the door is opened. it dims slowly once the door is closed.

That might have something to do with the door lock timer?

i dont even have a ring around my ignition.
