Rear left side window

OK ... I found myself in a situation when rear left side window just dropped down. I don't think it is a regulator but some bolts/clips.
It should be easier to take apart the rear in comparison with the front.
The question is - how long does it take (it's snowing and not really summer time outside; and no garage).
If anybody done it before give me some info and tips pls.

Thanks!

The same thing happened to my rear left window...It was the plastic clip That guides the cable up and down. I fixed mine with some plastic putty stuff from idiotzone. If you dont want to mess with the putty stuff, just buy a new one from internetautomar... http://internetautomart.com/maxima/3rdgen/window.html?

If you want to wait for better weather to fix it just grab the window with your hands on each side and pull it up, then stick something in between the window and the window frame to act as a shim to hold it up until better weather.

Freezing temp req.:
- need win up, not down
- fix has to be quick
- temporary fix better than none (maybe the 'glob all war mup petshow really' fairy tale comes true next spring and its nicer to fixit then?)

Humble nordic survival ideas, fast lane:
Take knife and pop panel out. Use wire: connect to bottom win bar, route over the inside edge and strap tight. -Or- put smtg on the inside bottom [piece of wood?] to prop the win up. Close panel. 5minutes.

Thanks guys!

Of course I pulled it up and "shimmed" (it was snowing )

That's what I though it is - a plastic clip. I'll just pull out a regulator, put some sort of support for the window in a door. And fix plastic clip myself later on.

I just hope it wouldn't take too long to take regulator out.

Thanks again!

yeap, I agree with wiking, just stick a piece of 2x4 in it,don't quote me on this, but the length should be about 6-10 inches, and jam it in DIAGONALLY so that the piece of wood will not slide around when you corner hard, wait until the weather fares out a bit better before fixing it.

I used tape to hold my window up while I was working on it for a couple of days.
the window reg can be R&R'd in about an hour if you don't screw around.
that includes f-cking around with seized bolts.
or you can wait til the car gets down here and have someone else futz with it

Windows UP

Mine were "clear windshield sealant" glued shut, in the rear.
According to "second owner" that was the "fix" non-Nissan shop did in 1999 so the A/C didn't have to work so hard in Texas, and the glass didn't fall down on bumpy roads.
What a b!&ch to clean up...
Taking doors apart revealed the cables on he regulators were all tangled up...
Replaced regulators with "new design" and hope they last another 14 years.
All motors, switches, etc working and accounted for.

I just might leave it until then

BTW, I was playing with a homelink device (from CLK320 - somebody gave it to me for free). There were no buttons or cover (it used to be in the mirror) ... so I made 'em myself and built-in the damp thing in an original maxima's sunvisor - looks great!. The only problem now is how to pull wires out (there is no way to pull 'em through the tube). Anyways ... I'll show it to you when I'm in Chicago (Kodak camera is in repair ... I guess forever lol)

And thanks for ur help guys!

PS: we should start a new sticker - "Quick Fixes" (lol)

3 thoughts
1. damp switches aren't a good thing
2. run the wires along the tube (some OEs have been known to do that)
3. get a sunvisor that has a big enough tube and retro it.

1. what switches? there are mini pin-switches on it ... but all of 'em are made this way, aren't they?
2. running along the tube is not the best idea because it wouldn't let a sunvisor to move and slide (unless there is enough wire)
3. original tube is solid and drilling it is not a good idea either (that's because of the way it is attached to a mounting bracket). using another one ... well too much trouble - doesn't really worth it.

I guess I'll go with #2 (just drill a hole in the bracket - not "clean" but will do the job).

1. you wrote damp rather than damn on your post.
2. leave slack
3. i meant that you would get a visor (including arm and mount) from a car that has a hollow tube..

window dropping down.

I have had this happen on all of the windows. This is most commony due to the window regulator going out. Typically the plastic piece that connects to the cable pully snaps or breaks as time goes on, resulting in the window just dropping as there is nothing suspending the window any longer. They are kind of a ***** to put in though, but can be done at home if you have the patience.
