Brake Fluid Leak

My brake fluid has been leaking for sometime now, and I recently diagnosed the problem. Whats that ABS Unit thing called with the tubes coming out of it to the left of the radiator. I heard its expensive. Thanks.

It's called an ABS unit(actuator). Read though the threads and look in the stickies for more info.

Wash it and pinpoint the leak. Maybe its just the tubes loose? [old car, 'every thing needs tightening] If broken, I would rebuild or buy used assy.

Hard to explain but it seems it's leaking right where the two peices come together. So I tried tightening the screws, thought maybe it would slow down the leak, but obviosly it doesn't have a proper seal. So how much you think it would go for at a junkyard? And how would I know if it's good or not? They may wipe it nice and clean before they sell it to me.

I would guess that it most obviously has had an excellent seal. Now 11 yrs old, hardened dry in an very hostile environment jumping "continuosly between -40 to +200." Or there's some mfg defect.

If you can tighten it, you can also open it. Clean it thoroughly and open in clean environment. Maybe there's a rubber seal you can replace? If so, its made of special stuff. The question is to wise men on this forum, where one could find pics & ABS spare parts?

Anyway, brakes are mostly useless but tend to be critical few times in a lifetime... So better to know precisely what/how u do. Cleanliness is must1.
