Lack of Power

I know this is very vague, however I'm really having problems, and mechanics just aren't getting it done.

I've been having problems with my car for a few weeks now. Basically, I push the gas, and I get absolutely no power, off a light, I have to basically floor it for the car to go (and not even fast, still struggling). The accerlation just isn't there. However, other times, I'll just touch the pedal and there will be a surge of power and the car accerlates nicely. (The way i like it). I took it to a mechanic and I initially had a problem with my exhaust, the connection between the manifold and the exhaust was broken, and he had to sodder new bolts because the old ones broke off.

After that, I was still having problems, so I took it to another guy who was specialized in Transmissions, because I thought it was a tranny problem, but it ended up being a few things that were messed up. (Fuel Filter, engine mounts) After that the car ran fine for a bit, and that's when I've been getting the power problems again. I took it back, and he made some adjustments but after a day or so, I still had the same problem. I'm really confused as to what's going on. I don't know much about cars, so I'm asking if anyone can give me an idea to what might be malfunctioning.

I have a 1994 Maxima GXE.

Any ideas???

When the car has no power is the engine running smoothly or is it missing and running rough? If you have a bad injector and it is missing bad it will cause the prob that you are talking about. Of course it could be ten other things but this happened to me so its the first thing that I thought of.

The car feels like it's jumping, like skipping.

Seems like the same symtoms I had when my injector died. When the car feels like that again open the hood and see if the engine is shaking. If it is not running smooth and missing it is prob a dead injector. But you have to do some trouble shooting and testing to make sure its the injector and not a prob with spark.

Another way to tell if the engine is missing is to listen to the exhaust by the muffler. You will hear a popping noise instead of a smooth exhaust sound.

Yea, I do. I think it's a dead injector or something to that effect. How can I check?

First you have to find which cylinder is missing. When the engine is missing, you have to pull the spark plug wire from the plug one at a time. If there is a change in the engine (runs worse) then you know that that cylinder is working. If there is no change when you pull the wire off, then you found the bad cylinder. The check to make sure it is getting a spark and that the spark plug is working. If it is then chances are your injector is dead.

Well, hopefully your car is tuned up properly (plugs, wires, rotor, cap, filters) and then you can find the bad injector. If your car isnt tuned up, then do it.

Hi,

i experience that same problem to,

when i take of from a green light the car would not go i have to push it to go,

so my problem was a dead injector,

when the injector was replace the power came back to normall,

i would recommend the shell v power gas,

it will give you that nice power back to your car,

I had sort of the same problem... my no 6 went dead, no skipping och such it was just dead. There was spark and all was fine as far as electronics go. So it had to be the injector. I just didn't feel like spending that much time and money so I tried using this fuel additive 'X-1R'. And it did work after about 2-3 full tanks. Just try that first of all, it might work for you too.

I have had a similar problem, for me it was a dead spark plug, but since I did replace them just some weeks before I didn't think it was the plug, and replaced the injector instead, didn't help, just gave me some extra work..

shot in the dark...
low transmission fluid can make a car barely move (does it rev smooth in park?)
also could your brakes be sticking and holding you back?
stop hard on a very slight downhill put it in nuetrual and see if it rolls
and when the problem occurs get out and see if you can rock or move the car in nuetrual
