My Engine Looks Like C**P

I want to know if you guys Clean your engine bays, and if so How? I figuered if you spraid any sort of water in the engine there could be consequenses.

My engine is all grimey and looks like steam stains. Replaced the radiator because of it, but the air intake manifold is stained. How can I Clean the engine bay? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

mine came with a dirty engine, and a clean engine doesn't necessarily make more power so f-it

do what i did. swap a jdm ve in there....while its out, clean the shiit out of it. and clean the engine bay. then put that badboy in there. and walla, nice looking engine bay with a 30-60k motor...or you can just not worry about as long as it runs good.

I have those fears myself. But I have a friend who used to be a mechanic and he does it all the time to his 93 Honda Accord SE, and to other cars he's had, so I guess it's no biggie.

I use Gunk Engine Brite for most stuff once, then just use weaker products to keep it sorta nice.

yes every car I detail I use the same procedure, why would I do it if it would mess up my car? Your not gonna mess up your engine, if youve got a VG just cover the distributor.

Spray Nine works wonders. We use it at work with an air gun hooked to a small hose of water. Just don't soak anything. And use the air gun to push away the water.

+3 with the Simple Green. I used SG, a brillo pad, sponge, low water pressure to rinse it off and went to town. Tell me what you think.

Well, "all the time" meaning 2, *MAYBE* 3 times a year at the local DIY wash. He doesn't do it everytime he pops the hood or cleans the car.

He even did it to an old 87 Z24 I used to have, and no problems resulted.

first off i wasn't asking how often....if you look to what I said, It clearly states that I was asking WHAT (as in the action he does, cleans with what and how?)
you said...

Amen.

Having a open element filter tends to up the difficulty scale ever so slightly. That is if you don't have a CAI . I would like to have the engine running while I am rinsing it with water just so that I can stop when the engine starts to heave. But what I have always done is cover my K&N with a plastic bag, soak the engine bay with Simple Green, let it soak (the longer the better, unless your engine is hot, but still doesn't make much of a difference,) and rinse it off with high pressure at the car wash. I have never had an issue. Of course I don't hold the 90psi over my distributor, cover or not.
