Plate between engine and tranny....

Plate between engine and tranny....
In the process of swapping in a 5 speed, I forgot those two plates somehow. Do I REALLY have to pull the axles again and move the tranny from the engine to put them there? I have not started the car yet so if driving without will cause damage I'm still safe.
Also, another dumb question. How do you make sure the flywheel is oriented correctly? I noticed it has some holes in the back side to balance the engine. There was a little hole on the end of the crankshaft inbetween two of the bolt holes at the same angle relative to the bolts with a "lone" hole on the back of the flywheel, so I lined them up. Did I do that wrong?
Also, supposing that one forgot to mark the position of the pressure plate relative to the flywheel, how would one be sure it is installed in the correct position? The transmission went on pretty easily, input shaft went into the hole in the clutch and everything no problem
I'm a bit worried that I did it wrong and will have to tear it apart again, Thats what you get for not doing your reading BEFORE doing the work.

Ok, the pressure plate only mounts up to the flywheel the right way, the holes are off by a little bit on the other two angles, how you forgot BOTH plates I dunno, but you can put the one that only covers the bottom half on, just take out the bolts that go through it and the studs if you still have them, and slide it up there, I am totally unsure of if you need the big plate or not, if you do you will need to take the tranny back out to put that one on

oh GORSH!!!
well i think you're referring to the inspection plate. it's not a must to have it in but if you can i'd go in there and slap it in for safety sake.
you guys should really get an fsm or haynes manual. it's very important to torque the flywheel correctly. make sure you torque it in a star pattern too. you don't have to worry about the flywheels orientation but i hope for your sake you have a clutch alignment tool to make sure that the clutch disc is centered before you bolt on the pressure plate.
this isn't a joke guys, make sure you're torquing everything correctly and that the friction disc is centered. good luck.

theres only one way to bolt up the flywheel so im sure you did that right same goes for the pressure plate
i know a few honda guys that dont run the inspection place on theres and have no ploblems. id just be worryed about wateer getting on the clutch and leting it slip

Um the big plate is just a cover. But if you don't have it, you will let all kinds of dirt etc.. into that area. Also the bellhousing is designed to account for the thickness of the large plate. So if you have the tranny w/o it, it might be mounted slightly crooked. You could probably get away without the lower 1/2 moon thing but the large plate needs to be there.

Pat, I'm sure we've all forgotten to put those plates on. I know theres atleast one other person who got as far as you and had that happen, I remember a thread lol . When we did Chris's clutch I forgot them. We were trying to get done fast and had the pressure plate on, came out from under the car and saw them and arrrrrggg!

if i were u put the big plate and the bottom 1/2 in as well just to be on the safe side cuz the same crap happened to me. i noticed this once i was already puttin' in the bottom bolts cuz the holes on the bottom wouldn't line up and i figured that i had to change the plates and i did. so i would put those plates and torque everything down correctly.

OK, just one more thing is holding me back. How do you remove the fscing bracket that holds the shifter? I turn the 4 nuts under the car, but the tops just spin. Tried with my friend holding the tops with a vicegrips, didt work. Not enough to grab onto. Tomorrow we are going to bring a cordless drill and a grinder to the scrapyard to pwn those bolts.
Is there an easier way?

u can drill them out but a cordless won't last u that long cuz it was hard for me and i just gave up. so i went to another one that had one in better condition and it came out easily from under the car. but i guess thats the only way to get the bracket out if anything look around and find one to c if u can take it out without drilling out anything.
