Maxima Fuel Injector

Hi everyone,
I am new here, and I have a few questions, hoping that the experts here can give me some pointers.
I bought a 1994 Nissan Maxima with 134k mileage about 1 1/2 years ago for close to $4k, and spend another $700 on changing the oxygen sensor and wheels axle. After driving the car for this 1 1/2 years, the check engine light turns on, and the vehicle begins to vibrate, especially at stop light. I send the vehicle to a mechanic, and he tells me one of the fuel injector is spoilt, and I would be better off replacing all 6. He quote me about $1300 for parts and labor.
My question is:
I have read the Maxima is a reliable car, but my experience with this model has been far from satisfactory. While it runs every well and smooth when it is working fine, I do not know how much more I have to send on repairing it. For people with experience on this model, what is the maintenace cost like? If I were to replace the fuel injector, is it possible that 3 - 6 month down the road, I have to spend another large sum of money replacing another parts?
Also, is 1300 a reasonable amount to spend on replacing the fuel injectors?
Thanks for replying

6 new fuel injectors run around~~$600. $700 for labor is wayyyy too much.
$700 is also a lot for an oxygen sensor and axles. Do you have another mechanic, or can you do work yourself. Also, whether you should change all 6 injectors or just the bad one, depends on how long you plan on keeping the car, and how much you are willing to spend on it. fuel injectors are a common problem on these cars. the injectors on both of my 3rd gens have had to be replaced. One at 60k and one at 200k

hi,
thanks for the reply, the mechanic is quoting me about $135 per injector, so the labor is about $500.
I am thinking of looking for another mechanic to have a second opinion.
So besides the fuel injector, are there any parts that you are aware of that needs replacing? The present mileage on my car is 154k.
unfortunately, I am a dummy when it comes to auto, and I dont have the tools or knowledge either, so I will have to depend on a mechanic for repairs.

FYI it is a fairly reliable car but with any car @ 134K + miles you have to expect to dump some money into repairing. Also the car is 10 years old and will have wear and tear issues which should be expected in any car of it's age + mileage. Good luck with it. Once you get some of these things fixed you can expect it to last that much longer.

Hi,

do all the basic tune-up,

like the spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor, o2 sensor, fuel filter, and the regular oil change if it hasn't been change, that all for the basic tune-up,

then the major is fuel injector, coolant system flush, and that all i can think of for the major tune-up,

if there other things i forgot to post guys, please fell free to add on to the list,

hi everyone,
thanks for the input.
I have check the ECU, and it is indicating a 51 - which implies a fuel injector circuit open. I will check with another mechanic for a second opinion.
Thanks again

As the engine idles, listen to injector click with 'stethoscope': screwdriver on injector, ear on the handle.

If it clicks, it tells that:
- ECU signal ok,
- injector wiring, coil ok,
- solenoid needle moving.

If all injectors act like this, ECU is possibly playing games... now then click an read my web page whattodoo, how to check/correct the electronics. Injectors "only 1/100" of possible problems.

so far you haven't mentioned any "unusual" prblems on your max.
the injectors are sadly a common nissan problem.
My suggestion to you is if you are even the least bit handy to look in the stickies for a writeup on doing the injectors on a VG motor.
doing the work your self will save you a load of money, and it's not that hard.

I just have purchased a set of used injectors (with rails and connectors) from a guy on ebay (100% positive feedback!!!).
He says he has a few more sets for sale (single cam; black dot; ohm and pressure tested - so he says):

89-92 VG injectors are different than 93-94 VG injectors.

which would be 89-92.
song beng says he has a 94 which have a different connector and therefore not interchangeable.

i have two sets of injectors with the fuel rails that ill give you for $150, both worked upon removal, and came out of a motor with about 100,xxx miles on it (more or less but in that area)(i think the other motor had about 108k on it but not excatly sure).

$150 and you can have em both, im not using em and it would be fantastic to clear some stuff out of my gargare, and that goes for several other motor parts (i have two VG's), as well as internals, perhaps even the whole bottom end, not sure i want to sell the heads as one is messed up and i dont want to take the chance of a lawsuit.

PM me if you need anything

Chad
