1992 Nissan Maxima GXE....yes, I'm a n00b...

OK, I bought this car from a college kid in town...I really love it and want to hang on to it.....only thing is, I have a few problems with it....most are small, but theres a couple I need some help with....

1. Brake Rotors: Need to replace....does anyone know any good sites to get these from at a relatively low cost?

2. Anti-Theft System: OK....this one needs a bit of explanation...My locks were frozen this past weekend to the point where I couldnt even turn the key....My rear window is messed up, so I pushed that down and unlocked the drivers side door...when I opened the door, I suddenly found out I have anti theft....no remote control to turn it off either....and I couldnt start my car. I pulled the Horn Fuse to make it quiet for now....but how would I go about disconnecting the Anti-Theft System? I don't really need it (I live on an Air Force Base in North Dakota)...and I don't have a RC to turn it off...100 Dollars to Replace....is there a manual way or do you need a Scan-Tool?

Theres some other things...mostly minor...but if I can get some help, that'd be awesome. Thanks all

1. http://internetautomart.com
2. the anti theft system doesn't use a remote. it uses either the keypad or the key in the door to arm / disarm it.
if you need to reprogram your keypad code, there is a writeup on it on Dmad's cardomain site. Link should be up in the stickies.
3. your messed up window is probably a window regulator see #1 for where to get.

oh and BTW I'm #1

to turn the anti theft off just put ur key in the door and lock and then unlock the car- took me half hour in a busy parking lot to figure it out :-)

OK...one other thing...just noticed this today on my way to work....

When I'm driving, I smell something...I'm pretty sure it's antifreeze, but I'm not quite sure...I do know that I have to replace a seal going into the intake manifold...I'm praying it's not a fuel leak....could it be that loose seal? I'm not losing a more than normal amount of fuel than normal....

the anti thefst a pain.. especially when it goes buggy like mine!

i hear you can simply unplug it to deactivate it for good, its located under or next to the steering console. i havent tried it myself tho, but i probably will next time i get a "warm" day

the antifreeze you smell could be from your leaking gasket.

Magnifico you are MY GOD! I didn't think I could manually disconnect....does anyone have a picture or something of what it looks like? I really don't care about the cold....I just want to knock this out....

and thanks for the tip on DMads site...I looked under the dash and POOF! there it was....it's wiggin out on me right now...too cold or could be the Electronic Iginition fuse being pulled....I don't even know if it's ever worked.....

You guys are EXTREMELY helpful. Thanks a million for the tips. Keep them coming please.

Here's my aim with The Shadow.....I eventually want to make it look like a Luxury Car.....please give me any tips.....Engine first, since thats being a pain in the tail right now. I'm going to correct all this stuff this weekend (Antifreeze Lines, Oil Change, Spark Plugs) and see if that all helps. It is all stock....pictures can be seen at http://wryan.photosite.com/car/

Any ideas are welcome....once again, THANK YOU!

well youll need to wash and wax it and clean the interior for gods sake. a luxury car shouldnt have an inch of dust on the dash like that.....thats nasty. There are endless options for what to do to it. go through peoples links to their websites and find out what you could do, read stickies too. welcome!

Yeah I actually went through the car and cleaned it once I got it on base(the pics there are about 3 weeks old), so it's clean now, except for the normal snow accumulation....kinda can't avoid it here....I also removed the bra, since I abslutely can't stand those.....

I bought just a generic plate set to hide the area behind it....it's installed now. When I went through the car last week, I did anything I could with the tools I had. This weekend, I'm planning on just doing general maintenance to the Engine...Oil Change, fix the Antifreeze leak I have (really just a clamp I need to install on a hose going to the intake and refilling the Coolant) and changing the Spark Plugs and possibly the Plug Wires. I'm going to the Auto Store to pick up some basic stuff Friday...what do you guys recommend besides a new car?

Thanks...the one of the main reasons why I like it so much and don't want to give up on it.....

One thing.....I have an Automatic, and whenever I shift, it won't stay in Reverse or Drive when I initially take off...I kinda have to play with it to get it in gear. Once I'm driving though, its fine. Is there any explanation as to why this is happening?

That sounds exactly like it. Thanks a bunch guys...I think you may have saved me from my friends initial idea of rebuilding the tranny.....

Anyone ever heard of Royal Purple Transmission Fluid? Also, whats the best Tranny Fluid (cost-wise) to use?
