I'm plannig to change engine mounts for my '91 SE Auto.
Ive got some questions to you guys.

1. I need set of 4 engine mounts for 91' auto, right?
2. Should I get OEM parts? Or after market parts are fine?
If there is anything better than OEM, let me know.
3. How much do they cost usually?
4. Where is the best to buy? Courtesy Nissan?
5. Is it possible to change them by myself?
6. If answer of #5 is NO. How much am I going to spend at
local mechanic?

Thank you

If you want to try some urethane inserts before you buy whole new mounts, I have a page for you.

Click me

This page explains how to make inserts for any FWD car.

Good luck!

Thoughts

They can be done by yourself but can be a pain if you don't have a hoist so you can get the underneath mounts. Be careful when bracing the engine that you don't put stress on the engine manifolds (i.e. jack the engine on an angle or too far up or down).

You should get a discount from Courtesy Nissan which comes in handy as the mounts aren't all the same price. I paid under $200 for three of the four from memory (without the discount).

Courtesy Nissan quote me each mount price.

$77.64
$56.89
$78.12
$94.60

+ S&H

Are those good price? I'm also interested after market parts from BECK/ARNLEY at carpart.com.
They are $269 shipped. If after market ones are good enough, I'd buy that. Anyone knows abou BECK/ARNLEY mounts?

Is there a performance oriented reason to replace your engine mounts? How do you know if they need replacing?

Why o' why ..

I had a harsh vibration felt in the steering wheel at idle. 3 of the 4 engine mounts were shagged.

If engine mounts are worn, it makes vivibration also makes little stress while sifting up even if the tranny is in good condition. If you hear or feel sound from floor when you step on/off the accelerator pedal, its the time to replace.
I can't expalain how the sounds is. The easy way to find it out is to see the movement of engine directly at the moment that you or someone else shift in D or R. If you see the engine moves back and forth strongly, mounts might be worn.
However, You don't have to replace them, if you don't care.
It's just for comfort.
