Whirring Noise on 5 speed trans
My trans makes a whirring sound mostly in 4th & 5th gear....I checked the fluid level and made sure its topped off. It sorta sounds like gears meshing without lubricant......

Few yrs ago I bought a small Adam Opel (red!). Drove it home (300miles), started whining on the trip. Decided to change tranny oil: could not. There was none... Well, added some and been playing four yrs since. Whining: add insulation:) - to car or ears.
If its the gears, they might lose, wear some of their surface, and become noisy, like possibly in Adam's case. Noise is the 'only' problem. Not speaking of input shaft... Go to dealer service and ask for quotation; they know the problem by noise, and price.

1st theres only on input shaft and 2 if your going to be replacin the bearings on the input shaft you mine as well replace all the bearings in the trans
i would estimate a rebiuld around 1k from a good trans shop
if you pull the trans and take it there i was quoted 400$ plus parts so thats the cheaper way to do it
