spedometer issues

Hey guys, i was driving about 85 on the highway today and looked down and my spedometer jumped to 110 but i was still going 85, then it went right back down. I noticed this about 2 weeks ago at one point but i thought maybe i was overly tired and didn't realize because i had just slowed down. What could cause this? could it be a speed sensor? any input is appreciated, thanks guys.

check the cables (conections) that go to the speed sensor, check if sensor is loose, (usualy only one bolt holds it in place). other wise it might be the sensor going bad or guages. im no expert though.
