Burning rubber smell though heat vents

Well, finally got rid of the gas smell through the vents, however now I am smelling a burning rubber type smell coming from the engine, usually when I come to a stop at, with the fan on.
Am I burning oil?
Original engine has 176k miles on it. No sign of smoke, nor is there any oil spots on the ground.
I double gasket'd the oil filter on my last change, however fortunately caught the problem, when the 2 seals gave, and oil start spewing everywhere....including the underneath of the engine. Maybe that oil is still burning off?
Could I be low on oil? Car does not overheat.
What is the best practise to try and find this issue?
Could it be possible I am burning through a hose?
Any help or suggestions would be great.

umm only think i can think of is Head Gasket? oil/coolant mix makes a burning toxic smell

check your coolant level and if you are due for an oil change check the oil when you do it. Or just check the dipstick for antifreeze.

What was that gas problem? If you had gas-flooded CAT, takes time to burn all mice off. Stinky terriblese. Hopefully your CAT still has one life left.

Did you do any work to the engine?

A mechanic tested my throttle position sensor and the rubber shroud was brittle and fell apart. A bunch of pieces fell off down into the upper intake and whenever the car would get up to temperature, I could smell plastic/rubber burning.

check oil level with dip stick...if you got oil on flex pipe it takes about 200 miles to burn it off the mesch....burning oil has a very distinct smell and does not smell like burning rubber...make sure your breaks are not sticking(emergency break on rear) or front calipers....other than that run car till hot and open the hood and look...if it is as bad as you say u will see smoke...good luck

Thanks for all the reply's. That gives me something to work on. To answer an earlier reply, the gas smell was due to the fuel hose clamps not being tight enough.

Its just strange, as I was out of the country for 3 weeks, and didnt drive the car. First drive back, and could smell the burning rubber smell for the first time.

Yesterday I noticed a little smoke coming from the front of the car. Opened up the hood, got a flashlight, and didnt really notice anything. That has not happened again. Did not smell it all day today either. Maybe it fixed its-self, however I will still take a look around.

Thanks again all.
