Need help with strange sound
Need help with strange sound
Hey,
I know I posted this, but now have little more info.
My '92 GXE makes a "knock-knock-knock..." sound when you turn it on in really cold weather.
Some folks thought it was blower motor (sounds almost like something is stuck inside the blower motor), but then it makes the sound even when the climate control is OFF.
Some folks thought something to do with engine vacuum, but it makes the sound even before the engine is turned on (even in "ACC", it starts to knock, but gets faster after engine is turned on)...
After idling for few minutes, if I turn off the engine and wait 10 sec and turn on again, the sound would go away. Now that the temperature outside is like -200 (or something like that), it takes 3-4 re-starts before the sound goes away.
Today, it refused to go away until the heater kicked in, blowing some hot air to the foot area. I am convinced that it has to do with the temperature?
But what in the world that resides behind the glovebox would be affected by temperature like that?
I would really appreciate any input, because the local dealer or service shops tell me that I should replace the blower motor first and see if the sound stops...
I just don't have the money to start replacing parts until the problem disappears...
Thank you,
