Thermostat

I was Wondering How often do you have to change the Thermostat b/c my car has been taking a long time for the needle to come up to operating temp.

they recommend it too be done every year or two, but that's the t-stat manufacturers recomendation.

and you do remember that's it's cold outside, right?

Yeah, when its shot, u thoughts will freeze-stop wonderin... Thermo stat can last from ½ to 21 yrs... Infinidesimal carkeepers (equal to carpenters?) swap twice a year to different value thermostat.

lol yea i know its cold but my car used to heat up a lot faster, now its takes much long and the needle barely moves unless its like 15min of driving

I usually change the thermostat when it goes bad. That being said I have only changed a thermostat once on all my cars. It was stuck open and I had no heat when driving on the highway.

someone said to flush the Heater Core in an another thread and i was wonder i could do that, or if i even have to do that because i have had a BG coolant flush.

Heater is 'somewhat' dependent on coolant temp. Like a water leak needs water...

If u engine has got cold, coolant cold, I bet 100$ the cabin core is cold... guessing also that uself will be. Without flame throwers that is. So no amount of flushing heater core will not help getting cabin (engine) warm.

But while u are at that, thermostat change, its a good point to flush the core, no harm there. Just unplug the hoses and give some water through garden hose through; prepare for the splash... Not fun to get glycol aroun electronics. Flush might increase waterflow =temp in cabin.
