Drive axel seating

I am unable to keep my new axel in the tranny. Hanes wants me to 'push it in sharply'. I have managed to get it in a few times but it pops back out. wtf?

there's a little ring on the end that is supposed to keep the axle in place once its in. have you tried putting some oil on the splines and little keeper ring? if not, i'd try that and try putting it back once you do.

what he^^ said, and I used a soft hammer to tap it in, or you can softly use a regular hammer with a block of wood.

ok, i'm guessing the little ring on the end may some how be too small or too big. i've tapped the axel back in but when i turn the hub through maybe 5 rotations it works itself loose. i've done this ten times now. the new axel came with a new ring. the new ring also seems to be shorter as in there is a 1/4' gap between the two ends of the ring, if you can picture it. it might be a bigger gap than the orgional (which is sadly back at the shop and unavailable) but i'm fairly sure the ring isn't clicking entirely into place.

Big ball peen hammer + block of wood + line up axle for a straight shot into the tranny + a few gentle taps = axle seated into the tranny.

you don't necessarily hear a click.
the o-ring should appear to be a little loose on the axle end, like its worn, but that's the way it should be. what led up to the axle being out anyway?

Nissan, Maxima SE '94 5spd Parting out.

CV joint. I really have no idea why its this hard. I've adjusted the o ring but I don't see how it really changes anything. I'm guessing that the inner end of the axel isn't long enough and the o ring isn't snapping out. I've seated the axel as far in as it will go, many times. And it always slips back out after a few turns of the axel.

get a new clip, it is 87 cents at the dealership. I used the old clip and my drive axle fell out going 90 on the nj turnpike and ground up the splines. Im currently looking for a new transmission over an 87 cent clip.

I'll try it.
Something is definitely off with the new part. I'll go get a new axel if this doesn't work, I've spent the entire day trying to get one little axel in.
