considering purchasing a new hu and speakers....

Sorry, but i know nothing about audio what so ever, so dont mind me if i ask the most stupidest questions here. im thinking about buying a new hu and speakers because all of my speakers are blown or they dont work as great when i play the radio. plus when i play tapes, both speakers in front don't work at all, and barely any sound comes from the back two speakers. Does anyone recommend any HU under the price range of 150-200 dollars? what about speakers, what are the sizes for the front and rear? im trying to go the cheapest route but with the best quality cuz i really dont have much money to spend. im not looking for an expensive sound system, just a better quality one than the crappy bose. is anything else recommended except the hu and speakers? i dont purchase anything online, so thats out of the picture, but there is a best buy and circuit city near me, so basically thats the only way to go. a couple more stupid questions...when i do replace the hu, how do i make it fit in the current slot where the bose hu used to be, and is there any links as to where i can find on how to take off the center console to get access into removing the HU? instead of me doing the installation of my radio can i just let circuit city do that, are they any good at installations or do they do radio installs only on certain cars...thanks alot

get a pioneer head unit. they are IMHO the best. sony always has decent speakers for decent prices.
<---------------------------i'm not a newbie anymore!
best buy will install it all for you for a price. i dont know the sizes, check the stickies, i think they are there. again, best buy will fit the stuff, for a price, or if they are doing a deal with the head unit they might do that for free....

I am prob. going to buy a 91 SE this weekend, will my 4th gen speakers (6.5 in. w/components in front, 6.5 in in rear) go into this car or does it have 6x9's or something different in it? I will be taking out the entire bose system, so don't worry about explaining all that crap.

Go to Craig's site. Or look in the FAQ. You could go to circuit city they are getting rid of their alpine stuff so it's all on sale and they offer free install however they'll charge you money for some wiring harness and little stuff. Your fronts should be 4 inch and your rear 6x9. If you want stuff cheap you should buy online. I have some 4in speakers for your front if you're interested. I also have a Kenwood HU. Maybe you can find some Maxima people in your area to help but I have no clue where you are cause you got a bunch of ***** there.

The stock sizes are 4" in front and 6x9 in the rear if you have Bose. If you have the "active" system, you would have 4x6 in the front and 6.5 in the rear.

I would recommend buying speaker pods from James92SE to mount 6.5s in the door. It replaces the stock Bose pods perfectly. You could try to make them yourself if you are too cheap. I think he charges $35. For the rear, I have 6x9s in the stock locations, but I think if you checked out some junkyards, you might be able to find the active system brackets to mount 6.5s. I am not 100 percent on this, since I have never tried it. If worse comes to worse, just mount the speakers right to the rear shelf.

mounting to the rear shelf involves cutting metal I am guessing. Not a big deal, just a hassle I guess.

no, 4" speakers won't sound as good as a nice set of 6.5s" imo. get some speaker mounts from james92se. i bought a set from him not too long ago, and now have 6.5s in the front.

highly recommend his mounts.

hey man.. like other people said.. if you have bose, 4x6 in front, and 6x9 in rear. And you might think bose is crap.. but no aftermarket speaker sounds as good as stock bose speakers... the reason they blow, is because of replacement in Head Units which messes up the speakers. anyhow.. HU, just install yourself because it is very easy... www.carstereohelp.com has step by step instructions on any car's wire harness... so good luck...

no, they're 4" with the bose...the 4x6 with the cars without the bose, and there are a lot of aftermarket speakers that sounds good.

Wow. I can make those myself at our schools woodshop! I have to give him credit for charging people, it is a great way to make a profit off people who don't have access to those tools.

this smiley face is downright disturbing

yeah, i think it was a good investment. it bolted right up without any issues, and he spent time making each set as good as he can.
