Better Gas Mileage?

I was doing a little research around here, and would like to know what I can do to get better gas mileage on my 91. I get roughly 200 on galons which is crazy.

All i have done is an intake, and a recent tune up was done.

Exhaust or 02 sensor will help?

Thanks

7 eleven gas is the worse. i used their gas has few times and usually get like around 200 miles. i think it depends on where you get your gas. the gas from arco, 76, and costco are alright. i get around 250-280 miles.

Cannot believe gas makes much difference. If octane level low, knock sensor detects knocking, retards timing, consumption jumps.

Many gas stations have rigged pump measure/ctrl -chips: you get robbed if they give 15% less than measured/paid.

I got robbed badly one time at a Sunaco "full service only" station when I told the guy to give me "regular for $20", and after it "supposedly" filled up and the computer showed 20.00 PAID on the digital display but my gas never went up. I told the guy WTF! He said, your gauge is broken. Magically my gauge breaks once I get to his gas station? Funny. Anyway, I argued with him but had no proof, so I left. It was late, and I had to keep heading home and I was out of cash. I drove for about 30 miles with the "fuel warning light" on, and on the way to work in the morning my car runs out of gas in the middle of the highway.(im surprised I made it that far with low gas.. Maxima rocks) I lost a day of work. Called a toe truck to drop me off at mechanics. Mechanic puts some gas in, and wow.. It goes up like magic on the gauge. Car starts, everything is great. I went to scream at the sunaco guy later that day, and felt like beatin the shi* out of him but he seemed like he was telling the truth so I felt bad for him. I went to another "full service" gas station and asked for some advice on the matter, and they told me it would not be possible for him to rip you off. As long as you saw the computer fill you up with $20, it's there. The guy could not have ripped you off.. Maybe 10 years ago, but now it isn't possible. All run by computer or something like that he said. I still don't know WTF happened till this day.

Check your tire pressure

Replace your o2 sensor

possible that your cat is clogged or partially clogged, but not likely

If you stop-and-go a lot, poor gas mileage is almost a given. These cars are fairly heavy and have 6 cylinders. The only way to get over 25 mpg is on the freeway.

I seemed to get better mpg when I put in the fidanza and synthetic gear oil in the tranny. I don't know which (or both) made the difference, but I can now get a legitimate 30 mpg on the highway. The mpg is still good with my JDM engine, although I have only made one all highway trip and I got 28 mpg.

Around town, it sucks because I let the car warm up for several minutes in the morning and I only drive two miles to work.

Oh boy. Expensive 20$!

"Its not possible" - maybe, maybe not. There are some not so nice fillin stations... Your nonfilling might also be a electro/mech malfunction, not salesperson fault. But happily a very nice 'glicth' for the shop owner...

But yes, how can one prove? I think there are lots of innocent men in jail because of our 'foolproof' electronic society... even waiting in the electric chair -line. And this is justice?

Next time u buy only with 10$, I guess?

Organized crime is in the 'trimmed fuel gauge chip' -business, according media reports. The fuel filling stations are inspected with some std certain calibration intervals, amount at 5? or 10 gallon or whatever. The cips have been trimmed so that at that exact amount they are accurate. But on any other amount u get 1-15% less. Nice, eh? The salesboy does not know about this, its the whole chain or owner that does this systematically. Theres no way u can be certain, unless u use your own canisters which have known capacity.

im almost positive your bad gas mileage is due to your bad knock sensor, ive been having the exact same problem. look in the how to's to see how it is done. the symptoms are loss of power under 3000 rpms, and low gas mileage. My car is drinking gas right now and im just waiting for the sensor.

While waiting, put in a .5MOhm resistor.
