looking at buying a 89 5speed in the morning
I was looking in the local paper this morning for a beater car since my tranny is starting to slip in my 96.I came across an 89 max for 280 dollars that supposedly only needs a clutch. We will see in the morning what kind of condition its in.
I have been looking for another car so i din't have to use my 96 as my daily driver so another max would be perfect.

my tranny is starting to slip - have u checked that the solenoids get enough voltage to function? If not, definitely slips.
Correct that issue first:

On the 89:
Clock might no work, easy to fix
Window regulators are common to go out
Clutch you can just grab an Exedy OE replacement on ebay, they seem to work well and are cheap.
Bose radio might not working, kind of common.
Just check its overall condition, most of the stuff is minor easy to fix stuff.

Well i went ahead and talked to the owner this morning and looked at the car in the dark tonight. The owner said that He is unsure if it's the clutch or trans. He had said it first lost first gear and just drove it in second gear.So it seems the trans is toast. He also said he lost the key for it so i can't hear it run but said they had hot wired it and drove it to where it's at.He had said it has a few hundred miles on t belt and water pump.
When i looked at it its dark charcoal color with light rust.It has a a rear left broken window and the dash is torn apart from the sterio being ripped out.So i may buy it for 200 and just part it out if there was any interst in anything. It doesn't seem cheap enough for me to put back togethor.
On my 96 i only get slippage from shifting to 3rd and only on part throttle going about 35mph.It has never slipped under full throttle. My plan was to get a built auto by nrh in the summer so hopefully it last until i can afford it.

i dont think you should buy that car...my brother has a 93 or maybe a 92 se (sorry-auto) that he is going to be selling later this spring...only thing is it has a small dent on hood from previous owner closing by pushing down, and small rust in front of the rear tires. in great mech condition, bose works perfect, everything works except the little light behind the climate control...pm me and i will give you his number when he puts it on the market. he is near monticello, on 94 if that helps, and sorry no idea of price
