Exhaust Leak----Big Job??????
Exhaust Leak----Big Job??????
It appears to be coming from the manifold gasket. I was told this is a big job. I have a 1993 Maxima, and I would imagine the bolts are rusty, so is this mechanic pulling my chain or what?
What is invovled, and how big a job is it anyway.
I was also told to sell the car before it gets worse. The car runs new, probably should get another mechanic.
Any ideas out there????

if the exhaust studs on the manifold are broken, it is a big job. the main problem is labor. the cost of the pieces to repair both front and back manifolds, for premium and geniune nissan parts, is under 50 dollars. its just a major pain to get broken studs out... however, if it is just the gasket, thats not too bad at all, shouldn't be more than half a day's work at a decent garage.

I would still try tightening the bolts first. 5% chance to get off with it. Give them nuts plenty of rustremover spray during 2 days before the trial... (and if -dunnohow- there was a way to get some pipe repair stuff between before tightening.)
This job GOODie for the stealership: at least here they catalog all jobs and youre only charged by the catalog. Typically this job is smtg like 2hours. But the actual job (if lots of miles) is smtg like ten hours. Now in this case, you get once in a lifetime really what the stealership work is worth
