cars smoking?

well this is about the 3rd time that I have noticed my car smoking like this. after I park it for a while at least a few hours and then get back into my car if I take off real fast just as soon as I start it it will smoke. that is the only time that I have noticed it smoking. its not a lot of smoke just enough that I notice it. it looks like its sort of black and white in color.

I dont usually notice it using much oil unless I go on a trip on the highway. a few weeks ago I drove about 600 miles on the highway and my car used up about 1 1/2 quarts of oil. I dont know if that would have anything to do with this problem but I thought it could.

what do you think could be causing this smoke? I put lucas in when I changed my oil last time, thought that would help but it didnt b/c I went on my trip after I put in lucas and I had this happen afterwards.

Could you find out where the smoke is coming from?

Get under the car and try to find an oil leak.

it doesnt smell when it smokes or at least that I can smell. like I said I have to take off pretty fast as soon as I turn my car on for it to even smoke.

I know that it used to leak oil till I put in the lucas. since then I have cleaned my engine so I cant tell where it was leaking from but it doesnt drip onto the driveway anymore and I have put cardbord under it over night and there were no oil spots on it after I used the lucas.

the seal around engine could be worn out,

when i drive my dad car before it would smoke if i drive it when i started the

car until i brought my dad car to the dealer,

and they said that the seal was the cause of the leak and smoke coming from the engine,

And you detect that smoke from rear view mirrors??

Youre burning too much ? gas while cold; TPS substitutes until the engine is warm and O2 comes into pic. Clean TPS.

That amount of oil consumption is terrible on maxima; typical on GM etc. Valve seals hardened? Need to take cams/springs off to replace.

Worn/broken rings would cause smoking all the time, worse when hot. Or like the stinking BMW's decelerating... uh uh. The oil theory would also produce blue smoke, not whi/blk as maximaboi indicated.

yeah its got 214k on it. I thought that the piston rings might be the problem when I take trips and it uses oil

forgive me if this is a dumb queston but what does TPS stand for?

I have been thinking about getting that rebuild kit that was on a thread a while back

1. Isnt it high time to visit my web page?

--->go for it to hit TPS : http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/748507/1

2. Compression tst should show if rings worn. 214 does not yet kill Nissan engine... I think the valve seals are the cause, can be cahnged quite easily engine on...

I beg to differ. 214 is never "nothing" on ANY car. Proper maintenance from day one goes a long way towards extending a car's life. Driving style, conditions, etc all account for how long a car will last. And of course all of them are always different for every car. Maximas are the best cars in their class, no doubt. But they are not immortal!

the need for oil made me think of the rings specifically. Does it get worse if you drive for 30+ minutes and then let it idle?

the only time that I really notice it using oil is when I go on long trips. the only time I really drive my car is when Im going to work and going on any trips, and my work is only a mile down the road. so it could be that it would use oil if I drive it for 30 min and then let it sit but I dont really know.
