How do I test a MAF?

I bought one off the junkyard for like 20 bucks, the car had 250+ k miles on it, so what is the easiest way to test the MAF without trying to plug it in as I don't want to disturb my current MAF.

I would just switch MAFs. If the car runs fine, the junkyard MAF is good. If not, switch MAFs back. I doubt you can cause any damage to the engine by switching MAFs for a short period of time. A telltale sign of a bad MAF is that the engine won't rev over 2000 RPM.

Thanks for the quick reply, I know about the maxima's "limp home mode", but I was looking for a method like measuring with a multimeter or something, I just bough this MAF because it was cheap, and it was the only MAF left intact in the yard. and the reason I don't want to switch is that I have a habit of overdoing things, and might damage the current MAF that I have.

To see if your 'new' MAF is possibly ok, compare resistances with one in your car. Take its connector out and measure... Compare; you will notice if resistors broken.

OR: Put +12V & gnd in the same pins u get in the car. Put a DMM probes into MAF pin b (second from left) & gnd should get 1V reading. Blow air through, should see slightly increase.
