Where are the voices?

Where are the voices?
So I got my maxima last year and all seemed great, the bose stereo though antique worked fine and had good overall sound, plus i'm not rich enough to buy a new system. So after gettin an MP3 player for xmas I also got a cassette adapter to play through the deck. Sometime between when I started listening to my MP3 player through the stereo the sound has degraded, in an interesting way. For some reason voices are muted while the instrumental sounds come throug fine. The sound that results from this isn't any fun to listen to, so I was wondering what could be causing this because I tried a regular music cassette and the same problem occurs, so i know the issue is not with the mp3 player or cassette adapter. Any ideas?

maybe the tape reading head is dirty? Try inserting one of those casette cleaner tape in there. I think you can get one for less than 5 bucks at a local music store. If not, the read head might be worn due to 14 years of playing, time to invest in an HU then I guess, you can get a cheap *** HU for like 30 bucks, it won't be anything great, but enough to entertain you on your drive.
Edit:
Also to note, when I first got my red max (have since traded in), I was still listening to music through the casette adapter, and the sound was really horrible, for some reason, it did not get amplified right, and I had to turn the volume to maximum just to barely be able to hear the thing. So, it can also be problem caused by incompatible technology.

Im no expert but, it could be that your speakers are becoming no good. If you have nothing better to do, and your a hands on kinda guy, open your door panel, and gently push on the speaker. If it makes a weird noise, maybe it's cracked. Or maybe your getting bad reception from one of the connecters somewhere in the system. Check it out.
BTW - Try posting stereo related topics in the "Audio and Electronics" forum. Makes things easier.

Just my .02 here.
When my Bose in the 91 SE totally crapped out and would only play static or not play at all. I went to the local pick-a-part got a Bose unit and CD player out of a Maxima and all four amps. I replaced the defective amp in the passengers side door and installed the radio and it sounded/sounds great and I have not had a problem since. I think I spent 22.50 maybe. Just a suggestion.
