Help Please! 1992 Maxima SE Rpms surging and bogging down..
I just recently purchased this 92 Maxima SE and I'm now experiecing problems with the rpm's surging and bogging down. When I'm on the highway, it surges about 1000 rpm's or more. The only way it stops is if I take it out of overdrive, and still very periodically it will jump. In the city I seem to be having trouble getting acceleration and it sounds like it's choking, with the rpm's surging and bogging down at between the 1800-2200 mark. I've had some people tell me it's the fuel filter, the fuel injectors, airfilters, sensors and I've had a diagnostics done on the sensors and there doesn't seem to be any issues there. The car now has about 129000 kms and I know the transmission had been completely replaced by a Nissan Dealer at the 81000km mark. Where should I get started? I want to solve these problems, but just not sure what I should check first. Anyone, any ideas?? Please help....

Been there. For that reason collected the issues here... start from ign: cap, rotor wires & TPS...:

...cap or coils may be cleaned and sprayed with special lacquer for extra insulation. Works as long as works...
I know I have posted this before just a few days back or so. Always check for 3 things when car is acting up.
FIRST spark take a spark plug out and with the plug wires conected to it have so one crank the car while you place the sparkplug end next to a ground. you should see a blue spark fly from the sparkplug to the ground, if you do then you have good spark, check all 6. if not then you have to diagnose the problem further but you would know it was an electrical issue.
SECOND if all works out with your electrical system check for fuel. (dont know if this one is relevent since your car turns on but,) place a longer hose on the top end of your fuel filter and have some one crank the car, fuel should spit out from the new longer line into a clear bottle (20oz sprite). if fuel spits out then your fuel pump is ok and you are receiveng fuel to the injectors(fuel rail). if you get fuel to the rail then you have to check the resistance on the injectors to see if they are bad. if they are bad replace if not then diagnose the problem further.
THIRD check to see if the AFM (mas air flow meter) is working. well this is taking for ever so you should have a general idea of whats wrong with you car by now, but if NO, look at filter, I think you have to check teh resistance on the AFM to make sure it is fuctional. but most likely your ploblem should be in the first step. (ELECTRICAL)
EDIT: or vacum leak. also check if a cylinder is down, if you have spark and cylinder is down usualy injector is bad, well diagnose the problem a little better and tell us wich one of the 3 things you check are not there. electrical/fuel/air

Also have O2 sensor with <2000 miles on it, newer spark plugs.
I might try changing the ECU, but i dont know.

also check for vacuum leaks anywhere.
