Fog light options...

hey ppl,
searching for a simple, but effective, fog light kit. looked all over e-bay all they have are colored ones, or big circles, i would like a basic rectangular shape... maybe a little slimmer then the stock ones... i stoped in autozone today, they had a kit, clear lenses,$40 and the perfect size, BUT! they had an extra LED in them that could opperate at 7 colors... i dont need that stuff..

who has aftermarket foglights??
how much?
where did you get them?
did you rewire? or just hook up to your stock foglight wires?

Sounds like you need GXE fogs then. Look at Matt's fogs so see how the GXE fogs look.

IMO the GXE fogs are perfect if you dont have a stillen lip.

Its a dealer accessory thing IIRC. My nissan dealer only carries SE fogs, he didn't even know about GXE foglights so you might have trouble getting one there if yours is the same way. I like those amber/yellow bulbs, but only on projector fogs. I wonder if Internetautomart carries the fogs?

it was an option. If you call Kaleb at Courtesy he will know what to sell you. I dont think the fogs and brackets are too expensive. They also carry the wiring harness with button but you will not need any of that.

Pilot makes a set that is about the same size.... I had a set on my old SE. One broke somewhere in Boston, but I now have the remaining one as a trunk light.

They are 55w/85w output. Lemme try to find a set.

PL-1055A/C 5" x 1 7/8" x 2 1/4" Driving Amber or Clear $25.90

I have seen them at Autozone for ~$20 and they work almost as good as my $300 PIAA 1500XTs. I would buy them next time and skip the PIAAs, the housing is great, and you can always change the bulbs to the temp color you want.

I put a set of Hella Yellow bulbs in my stock lenses and they weren't all that yellow.

If you want yellow, buy lights that are designed to be that color.

Choosing foglights really depends on how much you want to spend. I think Pilot are probably the best inexpensive (less than $50) type of lights. They aren't as good as PIAA or Hellas, but cost considerably less.

check with pepboys, I found a good OEM replacement kit there for 20 bucks, didn't bought it though, same style, slightly smaller size (height wise). They also have a halfsize rectangle ones also, which is the one I got on my car which came when I bought it, quite bright, it also costs 20 bucks.

I picked up a pair at KMart for $20, but I have yet to install them, they seem to be a good size. I just have no idea of how I'm gonna get the wires into the car, I can't seem to find a grommet that goes through the firewall!

yeah i got mine at walmart, they were 20 bucks. I just spliced the wires right into the stock wiring. The lights are pretty bright, but they have the blue lens which makes it kind of ricey. I just tucked them under the bumper a little more so they are harder to see.

They are the PIAA 1500 series fog lights which have two available lenses - Ion Crystal Fog or Clear Driving. Mine have the Ion Crystal Fog lenses.

Got them as a gift actually so I don't know how much they cost. I'm sure you can track down a price on the web somewhere though. Just search for PIAA 1500.

I think $200 is about the cheapest you will find them for.

Hey i'm in the same boat here...

Looking for a nice set of driving lights (110 watt) for under $100 that will get me through till I can do an E36 upgrade in the spring...

Chris have you looked into the Hella Optilux series??? Anybody else have these?? I've seen em for about $85 on ebay and I've always been happy with Hella lights...

I can't see dropping 350 bucks on driving lights only to have a rock take one out... But they do look bright as all hell!!

Honestly I couldn't see without these foglights, so at the time it was easier to do than the E36 upgrade or something similar and safety is worth every penny.
