Engine Light On

My engine light is on, I believe with a Code 45. My mechanic can get it to go off for short periods but then it comes back on. I live in California and need to get it smoged and can't do that until the light is off. My mechanic ran it through the smog test and it failed as a gross polluter but it hasn't been driven much lately. Other than this the car runs great. I did have the fuel injectors changed on it about a year and a half ago. Does anyone have any ideas?

you need to specify what your car is, mileage, what you've done already, etc.
It is a process of elimination.

The Car is a 1993 GXE with 145,000 miles. We put in new fuel injectors about a year and a half ago. My mechanic has gotten the light to go off for short periods but then it comes back on. We ran it through a smog test and the CO% was 10.74 vs. a .50 max with gross polluter at 2. The HC was 278 was 85 max and 271 gross polluter. The cars runs good but shakes a little at 75 mph when its cold. Thanks for your help!

They were new injectors.

is your fuel pressure regulator working correctly?
a code 45 is for leaking injectors (california only)

all your mechanic is doing is reseting the ecu. If he does not fix the problem the ECU will continue to find it.

Find out what the 45 code is.

Edit: there you go, internetautomar said it.
