Head-unit/deck issues and question

I have an old pioneer deck that was in the car when I bought it, and 4 pioneer speakers that i put in myself (took out all the BOSE stuff cause it was giving problems). No amp. Worked fine for about 3 months, now all 4 speakers cut off semi randomly.. but especially after going over a bump. I've confirmed that going over large bumps at a good speed (not a good idea i know heh) always gets it to come back on.

Sometimes just ONE of the speakers (passengers side front) will crackle or shut off completely. Other than that all 4 go off together. The deck still has power, the CD still spins and everything, just no sound comes from the speakers. Now I'm no expert but this makes me blame the deck or a loose connection to the deck since all 4 go off at once.. now I didnt put the deck in myself and dont know how to take it out or anything, can anyone tell me how you usually go about taking them out (if there is a standard way)? Or if anyone has any other ideas?

Thanks in advance

ick, that seems to be for the stock headunit, and tho it may be the same, i was wondering if there was a standard *easy* trick to take out the non-stock decks?

Did you bypass the Bose amps when you installed the Pioneer speakers? Or did you just hook the speakers up the same way the Bose ones were in there?

It sounds to me like you fried all of the Bose amps. Each speaker has it's own amplifier.

I would bypass the amps if you haven't done so. It is likely that your HU is fine.

If you did bypass the amps (like you should have), I would start by checking each speaker line right at the HU for power.

If the HU does not have power going out from the speaker wires, and you don't want to put in a new HU, I would buy an inexpensive 4 channel amp, then run the speakers off of that, allowing you to run the RCA cables for the line outs instead of using the HUs speaker wires.

look for the section showing how to take out the clock. you got to take out the trim before you can access the head unit.

hey, hope I get this sorted out. Taking a little road trip soon and REALLY dont want to have to do it musicless, heh.

abt bypassing the amsp.. well.. my motivation for replacing the speakers in the first place was that 3 of my amps were apparently shot. First two seemed bad when i first got the car. The third started going bad on me, and then i just took out all 4 bose speaker/amp units and put in 4 new speakers. So I'm not using the amps at all, and just used the bose speaker wiring that was in there for the new speakers. Hope there isnt a problem with that.

I guess I'll go remvoe the trim and stuff now, thanks guys and craig for the site. I'll check for any obvious problems with the connections... if it does turn out to be a HU problem thanks for the sgugestion with the 4 channel amp Matt, ill have to look into that. I'd rather save money for my trip than buy anything but if i end up having to buy something that sounds more appealing than replacing a HU

OK, since you have already bypassed the Bose (good job, haha) I would look into the speaker wire connections. Especially if there is a common connection (like an aftermarket wiring harness).

I think buying an amp is the way to go, though. It might take a little while to wire it, but it will cost you less and improve your sound quality, unless you buy a POS amp.

BTW, I am Chris. Matt has the Aztec Red Max that handles good.

oops, thanks chris then, heh. Just got back in (damn its cold outside), fooled around with the connections to the deck... testsed it out, and it was working... problem is i didnt think to test it out BEFORE my tinkering, so im not suer if it came back on as a result of that or not since it sometimes comes on randomly.

It didn't seem very sensitiive to my handling tho, couldnt get the deck to go off again by fiddlign with the wires. Also the front passengers side speaker wouldnt come on (this speakers the only one that causes me independent problems regularly), but otehr 3 worked. I'll check out the conncetions to that speaker tomorrow, and play with the deck some more too... but so far the connections to deck seemed fine. would it be reasonable to suspect the wires themselves at this point? i hope not

wires don't fail unless they are cut or corroded. Usually connections are the culprit.

ok cool, I guess I can be confident that it's the head-unit then because this morning the music stopped working completely again and all connectinos seem to be fine. thanks again

ok i went to buy an amp or a new head-uinit, but in the parkling lot i found some new evidence that made me change my mind- I found out that slamming the driver's door CONSISTENTLY triggerse my music to go on or off. Now rolling the window up/down also seemed to have an affect in the past, but i didnt mention it here because i thought it was just a superstitious coincidence because it didnt seem consistent but now im not so sure. Maybe the regulator working sometimes causes enough vibration to trigger the speaker?

Now I'm just confused tho- I mean this makes sense since theres wiring and a speaker in the door, but does one speaker's connection affect your whole system? I always thought the spaekers worked independently of another? Is there a circuit they have to complete?
