I went to get my new tires and rims installed and balanced and get an alignment as well, they told me i need new lower arm bushings on my car, it HAS been handling exteremly bad, a lot of understeer and irresponsive steering in general. I was quoted for 300$ to do both sides, (150 each)
Is this a fair price?

How much do these things cost?
Are they easy to replace? I understand it involves pulling the old broken bushing out which is hard, is there any tools i can rent out or use to ease the job?

Any info is very appreciated, thanks.

You have to set the bushing on fire for about 20 minutes an then smash it out, press the new one it. $300 is a little steep. Ask them how much each bushing costs. Should be about $10/each.

Do I need to remove the whole arm from the car to set fire to it or can I just heat the place it is held in? Also what do I use, a torch or something? Is it safe to do that down there?

thanks,
