help on power lock

Hi guys,

The power locks stopped working finally on my '93 maxima. No response to either the main switch on the door or digital entry system or the key on all four doors. I guess it must be something that controls all the actuators went bad. But I don't know exactly what part it is. Anybody here has experience on this? Thanks a lot.

Sounds like a door lock timer issue. I just repaired mine today. Take off the lower dash panel below the steering column. Just to the right of the column below the dash is the timer (gray plastic box). Remove it and take out the circuit board inside. Re-solder all the contacts on the board (mine had a few that were missing solder). Reconnect and test.

You are right. That's the problem. Now it is working, although my skill of soldering is really bad. Thanks for your help. And again, thank the forum.

hey i have a question too...my door locks on my VE are jacked too. When i stick in the key and turn, the lock pops only halfway up then relocks. I have to turn the key several times before the lock is opened fully. Sometimes it opens all 4 doors but usually just one...Is this the same problem?

Now should i try the same thing on my 93 gxe. When i hit the door locks i hear a clicking sound under the steering column but the locks dont engage. Also when i hit the button on the outside it doesnt lock as well. And my security light stays on and blinks even when i manually lock all the doors and shut the doors. Thanks !

If you're hearing the clicking sound from the relay, but the locks aren't moving, it's most likely the timer that needs to be soldered. My locks worked fine from the inside and passenger side key, but the driver side key was intermittent. Sometimes it would open all the doors, other times the 2nd turn didn't do anything. I also noticed that sometimes when unlocking and opening the trunk, the security light wouldn't blink like before (can't explain this). Thought it might have been just a bad lock cylinder switch until I noticed this trunk problem happening the same time the locks wouldn't work. Since soldering the timer, the problem hasn't returned.

garbury: I had the fighting lock issue a few years ago also and the dealer replaced the door lock actuator. That fixed the lock problem (it stop trying to lock itself back up). Your timer might also be bad since this controls the opening of the other 3 doors after the drivers door unlock (you said it usually just opens the one door, i.e. 2nd key turn does nothing.)

Sorry for the long answer, hope it helps.

where exactly is the door lock actuator, or is it not a DIY job?

It's behind the door panel inside the door. It's part of the latch assembly and it's all one unit. If you can take the panel off, take a few screws out, and disconnect the electrical and linkages, then yes it is a DIY. You could either get the part at a junk yard or from the dealer (might run ~$100).

oh damn, 100 bucks isnt worth it, i will live with the extra turning. I can do window regulators so that doesnt scare me...I just thought it might have been the lock assembly itself. I applied at the local dealership yesterday and aced the math portion of the test, so if i get a job i get cheap parts!

I had a problem w/ the locks on my 92 maxima - one of the symptoms was that when I would try to lock the car it would lock/unlock/lock/unlock in rapid succession. I replacedthe power window master switch on the driver's side door and that fixed it. You can get 'em on ebay or from a local junk yard....

I have a similar problem on my 94 max. the drivers side lock tries to open up but sometimes it goes half way only. The rest of the locks work perfectly. I'm using the car alarm button to open the doors. I could never get the key to turn the door lock. Its been jammed for years.

You think its to door actuator or the timer?
