The drivers side rear door will not unlock. At first it was infrequent, but now it happens 99% of the time. If I manually lift the lever, and at the same time the door handle, the door will open.

Anyone have a fix for this?

What other symptoms are there?
Do all the other locks work?
When you put you fingers on the lock/door can you feel anything on that door (i.e., is the actuator engaging?).

If you push the lock/unlock button repeatedly several times does it ever work?

My guess not knowing anything else would be the door lock actuator.

Thanks for the reply. All other locks work, I don't feel or hear anything on the problemed lock/door, and pressing it repeatedly doesn't help.

If it is the door lock actuator, is that something a person can do themself. I did take the door panel off with the hope of seeing something obvious, but to no avail.

That's probably it. I had one of my "stick". I was able to pull it out and open it up and free it up. I think the little plastic gears just got stuck. Anyway, I just opened it up (carefully), moved the motor and gears around, and put some spray lithium grease on the gears.

Just pull of the door panel. The actuator is inside the door about 2/3 the way down and about 1/4 the way from the outside edge of the door. I kind of poked my head in but ended up using a mirror and trouble light to get a good look. First, unbolt the actuator from the door. There are 2 bolts that you just unscrew easily from the door (once the panel if off).

You'll have to reach inside and unhook the push rods to the door lock button. It seems hard but it's very easy once you see inside. There are little plastic clips that you need to slip off the rods. They don't "fall off" so just flip the retainer. The actuator assembly should now be loose except for the wiring harness. Just pull off the connector. Voila, you can now pull it out. The rest should be obvious. Just pull off the cover by removing the little phillips screws...etc.

Once you think you have it working you can just plug it back into the wiring harness and see if it "moves". If the actuator motor is fried or something - you'll have to replace the actuator. A replacement is between $150 and $175 or so (can't recall exactly). If you have to do that, I'd go to a yard and get one. Can check with Courtesy Nissan on their price too.

I also checked the voltage on the wiring harness to verify I did not have an electrical problem. It's a bit tricky to test since voltage is only applied for a short period (to lock/unlock). Just look for your voltmeter to fluctuate when you hit the lock/unlock button.

E-mail or post w/any other questions. Good luck - hope it works out ok. Mine was a real pain since I could not lock or unlock manually either.

Also - dealer wanted $250 - $300 to fix it. Yikes.

front passenger lock

Hey guys I have a somewhat similar problem, my front passenger side lock won't unlock with my power buttons. It will lock with the power buttons, and if you push it down manually it still locks all the other doors. Suggestions?

I'd still look at the actuator. It has up/down sensor internal as well as a 4 prong connector. Check the electrical contacts first and then the actuator itself.
