oil pan seals....

I am doing my clutch, flywheel, rear main seal, and oil pan lip seals come saturday. The nissan parts guy said there is no oil pan gasket, but uses RTV sealant. Is this true for those that have done this before? Is there a torque sequence when putting it back on also?

Yes this is true, The only thing that you get from the dealer are two half moon gaskets that go in front and the rear of the pan (they fit where the pan goes into a "U" shape)

i would suggest getting u shaped or half moon gaskets unless you'd prefer to build a wall of rtv. use rtv or another comparable gasket maker to seal around the pan and half moon gaskets. for tightening i can't remember if there's a specific procedure. i'd just start with the corners and work my way in from side to side, corner to corner.

Yes, I have the lip seals that look like half circles ($16 each!) now the flat part will be sealed with RTV. By doing this work, I can prevent oil leakage further down the road.

the main culprit for oil leaks is the front main seal behind the main pulley ($3). Have fun with the new clutch

That's the goal yes. The oil pan uses liquid gasket or equivalent. For the oil pan seals, you apply the liquid gasket to the flat ends. I placed the seals into their grooves so that they were properly aligned. Then I applied the liquid gasket and placed the oil pan and bolted it up. The answer to your other question is yes, there is a sequence for the bolts. Start from the middle and work your way out to the ends. Alternate from front to rear. Torque to 5-6 ft. lbs.

Well, didn't replace the oil pan gaskets while doing this whole job today. We had the tranny off and was not able to remove the oil pan by sliding it across the main crossmember due to the oil pump assembly going to be in the way. So, we did the rear main seal and axle seals. I discovered the radiator hoses were a little flimsy, so I will be returning the lip seals and getting radiator hoses next week.

And...the Exedy Stage 1 clutch feels AWESOME!
