Timing Light.......

How do I hook up a timing light to my ve?

I've read the instructions for doing your ignition timing somewhere in the stickies but, my timing light isn't getting a signal from the cylinder 1 coil wire. I also remeber reading that you may need a spark plug wire extension but, I asked napa if they had one and they didn't have one anywhere in their catalog. PLEASE HELP!!

you need to make the extension wire, or I forget what car has a suitable wire.

Is your timing light a clip-on type? If it is you can just clip it to the wires right before the coil harness. If not, a spark plug wire should work, like subs said.

my timing light picks up hte signal from the coil wire harness off #1

Also I think the little wire loop by the relay/fuse box acts as a signal as well, but I dont remember completely.
