Spring cuts

Today I saw someone at work (I work in a auto shop) cutting their springs to lower their car. I just wanted to know what my fellow Maxima owners think about spring cutting.

generally it's not a good idea
it will usually give a poor ride and can be unsafe if done incorrectly

But I did actually just cut my springs today on my prelude. I only did it because nobody makes lowering springs for that car so it was my only option for lowering. I just cut one coil and there is still tension against the strut so the spring cannot come loose even when fully extended. For the maxima, there are plenty of cheap options for lowering springs so do it the right way.

The bad thing about is if done incorrectly you run the risk of the spring coming out. And the worst part is... some people usually cut too much off.

I knew one guy who wanted to drop half his ride height... so he was going to cut the springs in half.

I've just always liked the 1st gen prelude for some reason. I dont have a lot of other plans for the maxima other than maint. so I wanted something else to mess around with and this is a cheap car to do that (bought it for $450).
In the next week or so, I'll be adding power locks and remote keyless entry

cutting the springs will heat them up which can change the temper and potentially cause premature failure
