need help or opinions...

im in the market for a low mileage motor for my '93 GXE. i was able to find people that can get me a JDM motor or a regular USDM motor. now the person that can has the USDM motor in stock has 105,000 miles on it and it sounds like its brand new. this motor is still in car though. it was junked cuz the tranny blew. i can get the motor now but he's askin' $450 for it. do u guys think thats a fair price for the USDM with 105,000 miles on it for $450??? Now the guy that can get me the JDM motor can get it for me but at one point he was askin' $500 - $600 for the JDM motor with less than 70,000 miles on it. problem with the JDM is that he told me that its hard to find cuz there isn't alot of demand for it and it will take months till i get it shipped to me.

now i need ur guys opinions and thoughts if i should get the USDM for $450 with 105,000 miles or the JDM for about $500 - $600 with less than 70,000 miles on it and wait months for it???

is your motor blown or something to where you couldn't drive for a couple of months?

I'd check for other import engine places. There are a million. I've also seen vg's on ebay also. But if the us VG runs well and checks out compression-wise, it might be the way to go. It would have to be really clean for that amount of $ though

thanks Jeff for the help u provided me with but i know ur one of the gurus on here but isn't the JDM VG basically the same crap as the USDM VG??? i mean what the hell is the difference between both JDM and USDM VG and VE??? and for the $450 USDM VG that i can get believe me i sat in the car and started it myself and i even checked the motor out and its clean. now i just spoke to the guy that can give me the motor for $450 but without the starter, alternator, and a/c compressor. what do u think about that??? i have no problem on getting a JDM VG but is it worth it???

No diff for the VE or VG. US or JDM that I know of. I did a VE JDM transplant and as far as I can tell, they are the same (sans alt,ps,ac and other little small crap).

If that usa one is that clean and runs that well, you might want to jump on it. I always thought engines attached to auto trannies are not as beat as the tranny takes up the **** and not the engine. heh

look around for some better prices though.. when I was living in Oklahoma, there was a parts yard there that sold VGs all day long for $300-350 with that kind of mileage on it.

Matt thats what im practically doin' but this is the only place that has the motor that clean and at that price. everywhere else i've tried locally asks $600+ with over 120k miles on it. but i mean is it worth dumpin' a JDM VG since u guys say that its practically the same crap???

Nope not worth it. It's just that JDM engines "usually" have less miles that's all.

Try car-part.com?

IMO: Go USDM. JDM engines I've been told and with experience are trashed. My turbo project is going on 4 long years because Midwest Auto parts stuck it to me with a bad JDM engine that I paid ingorantly over $1200 for that supposedly had under 30k miles. Low compression and rust pouring from coolant lines plus bad valves. I've ended up completely rebuilding this thing ground up with all Nissan original parts. I'll have somewhere between $4-$5.5k in this swap when done. Go with USDM. Worst case, do a complete rebuild and you'll have a brand new engine. Nissan rebuild kit is about $600 at Courtesy when I bought 3-4 years ago. So, excluding labor, you'd have right at $1k in brand new engine. I would recommend going ahead and changing water pump and timing belt AT LEAST while this engine is out and being swapped in.

I'm sorry your experience has been bad with jdm engines. But I've had a great experience with Chris's JDM VE. Runs strong too. But I ALMOST got stuck with a dud jdm ve. They fooked with the wrong asian that day Seriously though, you need to really take a good look at the engine personally before you buy.

i agree with Jeff there on lookin' at the condition of the engine first before u buy it.

well i am goin' with the USDM and as i told Jeff and Matt in my earlier posts i ended up puttin' down a deposit for the motor that has 105,000 miles on it and i made a deal with the guy to also throw in the stock y-pipe cuz its in tact but im puttin' that y-pipe in my '89 SE 5-speed since i already have a WSP y-pipe. turns out that after i gave the deposit my friend calls me up tellin me he found another place with my motor but from a '94 with supposeably 64k miles on it and for $350. i couldn't do anything since i already gave the deposit on the other motor and i even started the car since the motor is still in it i just started it and it sounded brand spankin' new with no leaks what so ever. and of course before i drop the new motor in im gonna change practically everything on it: water pump, t. belt, thermostat, spark plugs wires and plugs, distributor cap and rotor, coolant temp. sensor, oil pressure switch, well u get the picture.
