Getting trunk lid open....

Somehow I knew that procrastinating would bite me in the ***...

Long story short, I have a 90 Maxima SE, and when I bought it for $150 I got keys for the ignition but none for the trunk/doors. I hadn't taken the time to replace the tumblers in the doors and trunk because I've been poor and its a few hours of work....time probably better spent fixing the ABS or doing a few other repairs that I have also put off.

Anyway, the other night I slammed the trunk lid hard to fit a suitecase and some other **** in the trunk, and the next time I tried to open it pulling on the lever to the left of the drivers seat didn't make a nice "click" noise like usual.

Now, to make my sob story even worse, I just got back to school (college) and that suitecase I can't get has almost all of my clothes in it, I've also got a few items back there that need to be shipped out (ebay stuff). So I need to get this open asap.

I'm curious if its possible to open the trunk from the inside of the car (like from that area between the rear seats) as I don't have the key to open it from the outside.

If at all possible I would like to avoid paying a locksmith to pick the trunk lock for me because that would cost me money...

You would have to take out your rear seat, then you have to push the carpet out in the back of the trunk. Then you will have full access to the contents inside there, provided you dont have something like Subs taking up too much space to reach around.

these ideas are great but try this...
just have someone wiggling on the trunk lid while pulling up. Then just push the trunk button and it should open. That works for me when mine doesn't open. It's worth a shot.

After my crash my truck wouldn't open by just pulling the lever, so I proped a stick agenst the wing (to put pressure as if to open the truck) and pulled the lever and it opened. That may be the same with your trunk too.

if i slam it the little tab that goes up and down in the trunk will go to down and i cant use the side pull in the car to open the trunk....and my key takes like 15 minutes to work. i just dont slam my trunk....but ill try some of these tricks next time i cant get in the trunk.

mine doesnt work

.. i hit the button and all i hear is a "Thud" tryed greasing up all the springs and moving parts on both sides of the latch.. still nothing ("THUD")... i have to pull it open manually from the inside.. then has to be closed twice or it will fly back open. the key hole doesnt turn at all...

.. i have noooo clue what to do.. i think ill buy some junk yard parts see if they work.

on the little post sticking down from the trunk lid part of the lock, i thickened it by putting a little rubber hose over it. It solved my problems with the switch not working.
